I think it's pretty clear that the tutorials in the game are terrible. So, I want to walk through some suggestions for improving them.

The short version is to look at Guilty Gear XRD. That game has fantastic tutorials for a complex fighting game, and a lot of the elements there could be applied.

1. Let the player change options on the fly in free mode. Not the biggest suggestion to start off with, but one of the most important. Letting players fine tune the difficulty of the ai they're against would be really convenient. More importantly is the ability to choose exactly what you want the AI to do. Let the player set options to have the AI block all attacks, counter attack if possible, dodge, throw, throw counter, basically everything you can break down into an isolated moment. Also, it's ambitious, but letting the player perform a set of actions for the AI to repeat would be helpful if there's something specific that you want to practice against.

2. Break up the tutorials you already have. This goes back to the first point a bit, but seriously the basic movement controls shouldn't be required to go through every time someone wants to go to the dodge tutorial, or anything else they're having problems with. This would be really easy to do, because the tutorials are already broken up so definitively. Also, break apart those tutorial videos as well. That's just really awkward if you want to see a character move.

3. Character specific tutorials. Instead of just having a movie that shows the player the move. Show them the movie, but then give them a place to replicate it. I think this is pretty self explanatory. It's a lot easier to learn by doing than by watching.

4. Character counter tutorials. One of the weird things about any fighting game is learning what your opponents can do. Having tutorials explain how to deal with certain moves would be invaluable. It's really difficult to figure these things out on the fly. Are there counters to everything your opponents can do? I don't know, because that's really difficult to figure out. I'm not suggesting that you give an easy way to deal with all the special moves going around. But at least having a starting point would be really helpful. Just something that gives you the dos and do nots of these moves would be really useful.

Tutorials are incredibly important in any game. In a fighting game it's essential to know what you can do, but it's just as required to know what your opponents can do. It's the latter that For Honor is really terrible at. Nowhere in the tutorials does the game explain how to counter special moves, and i think that's the biggest area where the tutorials are lacking. This is a fairly complex game, and you do the game a disservice by failing to properly teach the game to players.
