Game occasionally freezes at the For Honor screen or when loading the menu

Basically, I launch the game and it goes through all the intro movies and when it reaches the For Honor screen (right before the "press any key to continue" text pops up") it freezes completely. No audio, no video, UPlay overlay also freezes as well as my MSI Afterburner FPS overlay. Sometimes, I can get past that screen and the game will freeze at the loading screen just before the menu (the screen with the loading shield).

When I open Task Manager, I see that the game is still doing something (uses up like 25% of my CPU) but the only way to quit it is to end the task (ALT+F4 doesn't work for some reason).

I've tried disabling the UPlay overlay and not using MSI Afterburner but that didn't help.

    Specs:

Intel Dual Core G3220 3.0 GHz
    RAM: 8 GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7750 1 GB GDR5 (latest AMD Crimson 17.1.2 driver installed)

Even though these specs are quite low, the game still runs great (never dips below 50 FPS on Low) so I don't think it's related to my system.

Anyone have any ideas? It doesn't stop me from playing the game, I just have to launch it a few times and force close it to make it work. Sometimes, it'll work right away, but sometimes I'll have to start and force close the game 2-3 times to get it working. It's random and weird.

Aaaaand another bump. Was expecting this issue to get fixed for the full launch, but nope. Hopefully a Ubisoft dev sees this.

    Potential fix

Hey guys, I've been having this issue as well and will suggest a number of things you could do to fix the problem, in order of difficulty/potential impact.

Note that I have a CPU below the min specs, and a 2GB graphics card and am able to run the game smoothly (50+fps) and without crashes now. I was fine during the open beta, and after some trial and error, have resolved the issues for my PC post-launch.

First, ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date. I don't recommend using a utility other than the manufacturer of your graphics card to do this. Go to the official website and run a scanner or download a program from the manufacturer to do this for you. For instance, about two days before the release of For Honor, NVIDEA graphics card drivers were all updated. If you haven't checked since then, that's going to be the number one cause of performance issues.

Next, when a freeze or crash occurs, use task manager if possible to check the load on your CPU, if it's just for honor, continue to the next point, if it's scvhost or other background tasks from windows, google those issues and find fixes.

CPU issues cause frequent crashes in For Honor. Try turning vsync off in the display tab of For Honor (note, it is not in graphics). Other things you could try: running the game in borderless window, turning dynamic shadows from low to off or off to low, etc.

Check your RAM and ensure you don't have bad ram. Uplay does weird things with RAM, and if yours isn't seated properly or if 2 gigs aren't working correctly it's going to cause issues.

Check your GPU and ensure it is seated correctly, also dust it. This is more general maintenance and probably isn't your issue but it's worth a shot.

If you have questions go ahead and reply here, I'll check back in a while. I know how frustrating this issue is, especially how no one else seems to be posting fixes. Hope these help!

    Some more things to check:

If you're using Windows 10, check windows defender settings and ensure that For Honor and uplay are added as exceptions, also ensure that under the Windows Firewall has For Honor and Uplay as an exception

    Run Uplay in administrator mode

unplug unneccesary peripherals (usb controllers or headphones) and relaunch the game

ensure that your power source is providing enough wattage for your graphics card

same thing is happening here. Not sure what's wrong but it's only started about an hour or two ago, hasn't done this before.

EDIT* I closed my Anti-Virus and that seemed to fix the problem, cannot confirm though.

I hope they fix this soon, the game F****** freezes all the damn time especially after people leave the server after a match and I get that leaving message or when I try to leave back to world map it pops up the message and it freezes.... I have been using an xbox one controller I don't know it that has to do with it at all but this is really frustrating and I'm bout to stop playing this ****.

    Also Freeze INGame

Hey ,there. I have baisically the same problem, i guess. The only difference is, that the bug occurs while playing a game (multiplayer and storymode).First the audio dissapears, for about 3-5 seconds i am still able to controle my hero. After that the screen freezes and stays this way until i have to quit the process by task-manager (ALT + F4 doesn't work). I have tried every solution, which i could find on the internet. No succes so far.

The game runs on a 50-100 FPS rate (Benchmarktest). The Problem only occurs since the Open Beta. It didn`t freeze in the Closed Beta.

    Specs:
    CPU: AMD FX-8320 (Crimson 17.1.2)
    GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270
    Ram: 8GB

    Same Problem

Mines a bit weird. In-game I get the USB connect/disconnect jingle (the same sound you get when you connect/disconnect the 360 pad) and the in-game sound goes off - and it doesn't come back. After that, the game usually just locks up and I have to close the process via TM. Been stuck in the training area for four days now. Can't get any further because once those things kick in, it's game over. This game is well broken.

I've got a ton of other stuff to play so I'm going to leave it for a few months and come back when it's been properly fixed.
