I must start this thread with saying that i did not play any of the alpha's or closed betas nor did i in any way follow them. I know only from what i've experienced in the open beta over the past 24hrs.
That said, i think that the game plays amazingly! A few things still need to be polished here and there, but that was to be expected even with extensive testing,, Maybe better parry times ? Or some damage and bleed adjustments here and there and so on.. The rest is, in my opinion, more about us learning how to play the game properly! How to position ourselves properly, how to feint, punish, parry, pummel and everything else there is and more then anything , how to counter specific characters and exploit their weaknesses as well as strengths. The gameplay itself is fine at this moment, in my humble opinion. They will need to patch things up by launch nevertheless. We must keep in mind that this is BETA TESTING, and not a demo version of the actual game.
Now, i probably still will not buy it at launch, and the problem this game is facing is everything around the gameplay itself. The matchmaking system, the NAT, EAC, and so on.
I will try to outline some of those that i have encountered in my own experience while playing this game in hopes that some of them are due to me, which i can fix, rather then due to Ubisoft, and also in the hopes that the developers will hear all of us eventually.
First and fore mostly, NAT! I had to literally buy a new router, since my ISP does not want to give me the admin credentials for the router they provided me with.
I do understand the benefits of having an open NAT , regardless of this game but there are two facts which the developers must not ignore if they want to make a user friendly and rich gaming experience:
1. Not all people can get access to their routers, by any means, AT ALL.
There are countless of us out there who would really want to enjoy this and other ubisoft games, but its made harder then it should by having P2P and requiring us to have an Open NAT type. Thus they are withholding themselves of the profit gained from those who cannot or just plainly will not make the work done to get Open Nat. Here i would LOVE to read an official statement by Ubisoft why did they choose this at all ? Because:
2. Nearly all other popular online games at the moment who feature team play, voice chat and are in need of low ping, do not have any NAT restrictions at all.
This is telling all of us that it is possible to design it in a way where NAT does not matter. So why not go that way too ? I may have been missing something here, i tried to google the importance of NAT and why it is necessary, but so far i only found it being necessary for certain games, mostly developed by Ubisoft while the majority of the industry doesn't use that system at all.
Next, i and all of my friends (exactly two of them who got the open beta), downloaded the game over UPlay, and we couldnt make our generic third party controllers work with the game properly , using the X360 controller emulator program known as x360ce. Either the Easy Anti Cheat would kick us out of games or the frame rate would drop to either its teen or single digit numbers even if we put down the settings to low (from otherwise "high mid" without the controllers plugged in). Yes, everything is up to date.
I am terribly sorry if i am incorrect, but i believe that this is terribly ignorant from Ubisoft. No body is expecting them to generate compatibility for every third party controller there is out there, of course not! But x360ce is a well known application that works PERFECTLY with nearly all games from other developers, while it consistently has problems with Ubisoft games. I am really happy with my third party controller and x360ce should work well with For Honor.
Once again, this may be an error from my side, that i did not adjust the settings properly, and thats why either EAC is triggering or my FPS is dropping all the way. IF that is the case and somebody found a solution, i would be happy to hear it.
But if not, this is a grave error.
Now something more about the game, which are rather minor things in comparison to what I've already written.
-Error Messages: Make them more clear why we are getting them. Thank you.
-Put sounds with them and with entering a game and similar. I enjoy browsing and chatting while matchmaking, and all other games have dedicated sounds for when a match is found or an error occurred. I did not hear something like that here.
- Scale the bots levels in the various modes, since there is the possibility of adjusting their level when you are making a custom match, but the bots in the "main game" seem to be all level 1 only. (Yea, i got manhandled by those too at the beginning)
-Fix the matchmaking in the sense if somebody has a strict NAT, dont even match them up with other stricts or moderates, because that will only result in an error message. In other words put a filer on it before the grouping up starts and the game realizes that somebody has bad NAT.
-And of course, as time goes, try to balance your "classes".
I believe that there are also other things, but these are the problems that i have encountered that made the experience of a game that i quite like, unplayable.
Thank you, and have a nice day.
Cheers.
Great post, same errors on my side. Just made a similiar post, just less detailed. (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...0#post12283110 if you are interested).
I found the game itself incredibly enjoyable, but I literally couldn't stay in a match for more than 2 minutes, despite having an open NAT.
2v2 Brawls was fine though, but the second me and my mate went into 4v4's we couldn't finish a match.
I don't know how Ubisoft manages to break their games like this, it truly boggles my mind.

I'll probably check on it again near to the end of the year, and if they have truly fixed these things, i would be more then happy to buy the Gold Edition. I really love this game, and its a marvel to me how it turned out like this.Originally Posted by Shubercuts Go to original post

I did not preorder the game and given it's current state I do not know why anyone would.
There's the network issues, then there's the basic problem of timing based gameplay in a laggy environment, then there's the class balancing issues. They need to fix all of them.
I believe that most people who preordered it, did so way before the open beta. I truly hope they fix these things in the coming months. Not mainly for their sake, but for the sake of all gamers in need of quality gaming.Originally Posted by The_Quieter Go to original post
