A more practical zone attack would help. Unlock back turn zone attack has its use but compare to orochi or warden, it is still leagues away.
Right now, Kensei has to work hard to make themselves unpredictable to get damage in. None of his stuff is free. He can't rely on fast attacks like warden's top to catch people offguard.
Mid tier is a good spot for Kensei. I think he is the most balanced character out of the cast. Of course, if he were to be placed in higher tiers, he'd need the fast attack that all the A, S tier guys have.
Although, I'd hate to have them generalize the character. I like the way Kensei has mind game options, but it only gets harder and harder to get past guards as the skill level rises.
If they can give Kensei even more options, I'd be more happy than them giving Kensei a free damage button.
And a personal request...make his cancels cost less stamina! All the feint in the world I want to do, but stamina kept me locked away!
Heavy whiffing into unblockable already cost a ton of stam, and that is just to get my chain going. I still have lots of stuff to come afterward, cancel side heavy, into a light, and if connects, into another heavy cancel into a guardbreak etc. But there just isn't enough stamina for all that. Nothing is sadder than a Kensei that can't feint his way to victory.

BossTode outlined the problems perfectly here. I have played kensei extensively and the upper level players have basically made my game devolve into unsafe feinting because of the need to worry about zones from faster characters or charging heros. Then trying to bait out a move so i can dash into it and grab off the dash block. Kensei needs his side lights to be as fast as top or a different zone. AND ADD BACK IN THE GLITCH DASH RIGHT JUMP ATTACK IT WAS SWEET TO LAND. And for the people saying they are starting combos with forward dash light... Are u even real? Its sad to say but Kensei sucks, he has no way to pressure good defensive players. Yea, he can feint but why would opponent even try to parry when blocking everything Kensei does is easy since all of his moves(except top light) are slow as **** and GB is almost useless against decent players. Make all his light attacks as fast as top light and give him Warden's zone and then he might be viable in high level play.
