Myself and my 2 housemates were looking at getting this game to play together so of course we all decided to give the open beta a try. We immediately ran into connection problems. I set up port triggering on our router and that did not solve the issue. After some digging around, other Ubisoft games suffer from the same problem.
Basically it comes down to the Ubisoft servers communicating with our single external IP (have to pay extra to get more external IPs with our ISP). I'm suspecting that 1 Ubisoft server trying to send/recieve data on the same ports with 3 different people at the same IP is causing constant disconnects (~ every 5-10 min). Other games such as the Battlefield games and CS:GO have the ability to set launch parameters/arguments where you force your client to use a certain port to alleviate this problem (each PC forces their game client to a different port so there's no cross traffic).
PLEASE implement this with your game, Ubisoft. You're really preventing people who live together and want to play together from getting your games. My housemates and I were going to get For Honor when it came out, PURELY to play with together. But if we can't, then we will find a different game to buy that will let us play together.
A little more info about this situation:
I have all the ports that Ubisoft mentions set up for port TRIGGERING since you can't forward the same ports to multiple devices on the same network. This still doesn't solve the issue since the game clients will still ask for/send data on the same ports across all 3 of our clients.
Tried using a VPN so that my external IP appears to be different than my house mates. This allowed us to play at the same time. But we couldn't play together. Still got disconnected from each other after about 2-3 min.
Only other fix available that I can think of is buying a block of external IPs from my ISP (AKA business class service or a business package). But I don't feel like having to pay extra every month for my internet is such a great solution when there are other games that don't have this problem.
Also, after a lot of digging, apparently RB6:S has this same issue even after being out for 2 years! How is it that EA and VALVE can supply launch arguments to force their game clients to ports and Ubisoft can't is beyond me. PLEASE UBISOFT, add a "+clientport" launch argument to your games so that people on the same network can play together!
I wonder how people in College dorms or apartments with shared internet will play Ubisoft games. Without their ISP giving the dorm or apartment a big block of external IPs, those people are probably screwed.Originally Posted by xPhenomen Go to original post
No one with shared internet will be able to play this game in it's current state. People talking about purchasing VPNs in order to a play a AAA title in 2017, this whole situation is a ****ing joke.Originally Posted by GotItFromEbay Go to original post
