I had a hard day with the oroshi : he overwined to a point i was wondering : am i so bad? was i so lucky that i was playing with very bad players and i didn't realise it? was the oroshi overpowered?
So Thank for the tactic because it was becoming unpleasant to get killed so easily without a clue for a success.
I will return training and be more patient in the fight against him.
(Always harder to recognize self weakness)
Orochi relies on his mobility to get in damage. Mobility is only good if he can play around you, if you sit back and wait for him he lacks options to break through your defense except for guard breaking.
I play him a lot and a conqueror that sits back shielding my attacks and keep his cool will defeat me. Orochi specializes in counter attacking if you play defensively he can't exploit his mobility.
I know it looks easier on paper but don't take unnecessary risks against him and always be aware of counter attack.
Personally, as a Warden, the Orochi is, by far, my easiest matchup, you can totally shut down their bread and butter with crushing counter. Their dashing attack is also parry bait if you rely on it too much. I can see how a conquerer would have trouble with one though given the way it can take angles.
I would work on your counter-guard break and parries if I were you. Shield classes like the Conquerer and the warlord are a difficult match up for any Orochi that spams GB or storm rush. Like some of the post above me have said- the Orochi is a great noob stomper. At higher levels of play where players are on point with their defenses assassin classes like the Orochi have a hard time finding openings using the typical GB into heavy combo or a storm rush and light attack combo since neither of those openings are a safe bet against a good player.
I just started playing today, never played Beta.
Spent time practicing vs bots then went out. And low and behold, winning most games, but lost a HEAP to Orochis.
And there is alot of Orochis out there.
I beat the button mashers and even some decent ones, but the Orochis that knows their kit.....
My MMR skyrocketed since I won 90% of my first 20 duels, so had to face already pretty good, old beta players, and I beat all but Orochi mains.
That and I bloody didnt know how to Parry so Raiders just spammed unblockable....thats now fixed.
Now what I will do tonight, which I recomend you.
You can create a custom game, and use a bot, take the Orochi.
You can in the menu set the difficulty of the bot. Yes 1 is not worth it.
But place them on 3....and you will have a tough time as they utlize their entire kit, spot on timing and to the T parries, blocks.
I for sure am not going to waste time in 1vs1 duels until I have a clear answer to beating the Orochi.
Is it broken? Not at all, I have beaten with only a few hours exprience of this game, and I never play fighting games, some pretty decent Orochis, making them leave.
But earlier I faced a prestiged one and, I killed him twice in I think we had 5 games. I refused to give up and was close a few times.
Now Im better, above all, as a main warden I forgot about my top light attacks and zone attacks, and parry.
As Warden, I can pushing many Oroshi since they tend to use over head strikes, which I counter for massive damage.
They are glass cannons, just take one double tap light followed by a shoulder bash into double tap, shoulder dash, heavy or GB heavy. (vs less good ones)
Anyway my entire point was that there is a bot system in place, when you create CUSTOM games, and it lets YOU choose what opponent you get, in every game.
Thats how I learned how to beat most of the played champs like Warden, berserker, Kensai, raider, warlord.
Its also fun to practice, get your timing to a T.
Personally its all warden for me, until I have perfected it in everyway, Im not moving on. And I am determined to eat Orochis for breakfast on my warden.
Edit: The times I beat fairly good Orochis is where I push them into corners by being aggressive, I block most attacks, take some damage but get them into a tight place and its getting to a slug party, and Orochis need their nimble kit to survive and do damage, they are not great in a clinch, especially not vs Wardens, conqs, warlords. Atleast this is my experiene.
I 2 shot an orochi earlier on my conq, times in fully charged swings, again, mediocre players but they really have a low hp pool. Dont be afraid to eat a little damage and be psyked by you sitting at 20% and them at ful, one combo and they are at your level, and a small combo at that.
It's a bit irritating that in a game where parrys and good defensive moves are supposed to feel rewarding, the noob meta for winning is light attack spamming. How do you beat light attack spamming when it's near impossible to get a parry on attacks that fast? Faster light attack spamming! .....or light attack spamming at range (Nobushi).
First 1000 hours of gameplay (exaggeration) = I light attack faster than you, so you can't grab me, or else you'll get stabbed. Oh...you're decent at defense, so I'll just grab YOU, cuz remember, you can't grab me. Oh, you can guard break counter? Okay, I'll just back up and recover stamina, because your options for punishing me are far less effective and harder to execute than my options for punishing you for not being able to block light attacks.
