Ideas and Sugggestions
General Thoughts
I've played the closed beta and I really enjoyed the game, I told my friends about it as I was having fun playing it, and I think it has great potential like The Division still has, but it desperately needs some love to make it more appealing and less repetitive/boring in the long run.
Now, as anticipated by the title, I'll make a list of ideas and suggestions that came to my mind after playing the closed beta:
Player and Combat issues
As pointed out by some people, the combat, the AI in particular needs some tweaking:
- Enemy AI, they seem to focus mainly the player and ignore the rest of the squad while playing in in single-player;
- Squad AI, they don't "join" the fight very often and instead run in circle or just ignore the enemies, and most importantly, they should tag the enemies spotted by them;
- Weapon handling is maybe a bit too much precise, I think that the current standard handling should be available with the 3rd rank upgrade;
- Sniper bullet fall distance needs some improvement, I'm no gun expert, but I think that shooting a target at 200 meters shouldn't require that much compensation;
- Weapons such as Sniper rifles and LMGs would be more fun with a bipod attachment;
Perks and Equipment
- Perks are fun and all, but I think that Parachute shouldn't be a perk upgrade, but it could be, for example, an early mission reward, because it's a handy piece of equipment that has a general use and shouldn't force a player to "specialize" in it.
- Equipment upgrades like the grenade launcher are really, they offer many playstyle and even character style options. They are, however, somewhat limited, and I think they could offer more equipment upgrades such as "caltrops", used to stop convoys and other vehicles, an "Ammo box" with long cooldown, a "Radio SIngnal Disruptor" (enemy reinforcements are annoying sometimes), "Smoke Bombs" and other similar variants to normal grenades, "Abseil Equipment" (The first time I died, I respawned in a river surrounded by high rocks, I had to take a long walk to find a ledge or had to fast travel).
Another way to face this issue could be lock everything behind a relatively cheap perk, available right at the start of the game;
Vehicles and Aircrafts
Again, as pointed out by other users, vehicles in the game are quite tricky to handle, especially the heavy ones such as pick-ups and trucks. I understand that the controls, cameras and general feel of the vehicles were designed to be similar to an Action Movie (and I have to say, I appreciate and enjoy it), but sometimes and especially with certain vehicles, they become unbearable.
- Heavy vehicles tend to lose grip A LOT, sometimes the most little direction adjustment can turn into a dirft race;
- Planes and Helicopters lack some controls to adjust the orientation;
- Bikes are fun (I know many disagree with me), but I enjoy the action-style of the bikes in this game, the problem is mostly related to fall "damage" and the players flying away like a Flat-Out game driver whenever they fall from a too high distance;
- Vehicles don't suffer in any way off-road trips, no speed loss, no handling loss;
Quests and Activities
Quests are fun, they require some tactics if you want to be silent and complete it undetected, but they tend to be a bit repetitive. I hope this is due to the fact that we got the chance to play only one area of the game and they didn't want to spoil every kind of quests and not just the lack of content variety.
Like Skyrim, this game could offer some general repeatable quests, such as infiltrate and recover intel, more less rewarding convoy missions, maybe some "Defend the rebel village/base" missions.
Some Races (Cars, Bikes, Planes and such) or Challenges (Shooting range, Parcour tracks) could be fun too since this is an open world and unlike The Division it offers way more travel options and control over the player's movement.
Final Thoughts
As stated above, I enjoyed the game and I'm planning to play it with some friends, I hope I will see an improvement and that those important issues the community is pointing out will be addressed to make the game more fun and less repetitive. As a Game Design student, I tried to think about possibile solutions to major and minor problems in a realistic way, focused on the "Quality of Life" of the players and replayability. I hope these ideas will be helpful or just inspiring for the developers
