I will dispense with the pleasantries as we all know, seen or have heard how beautiful the game is and cut to the chase in hopes that this could be fixed by release... this coming from someone who fell in love with the GR franchise on PC since the beginning.
I got the beta to test and find things that I know will bother me if I decide to buy the game after a few patches. I don't really care if I don't get to finish it by the time the beta is over and since I am not overly impressed so far, I am more looking for bugs and things from the get go.
This is my opinion and mine alone, if yours differs, well good for you and you are more than welcome to post if you want or just read through and take what you want from it but I don't pull any punches and if you might get offended by it, you are welcome to hit the back button now.
My System Specs...
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Mobo: ASRock Z87 Extreme 6
CPU : Intel i5-4670K @ 3.40 Ghz
Ram: Corsair 8GB Dual channel @ 800 Mhz
GPU: Asus 2GB GTX660
Nvidia Driver: 347.25
I have always been one that if it ain't broken don't fix it and I am looking for a better gameplay than eye candy graphics.
Level of Difficulty: Ghost
HUD: Almost everything off except for minimap
Gamma Settings: 50% because I did not noticed any big differences
Extended FOV: 50% Will probably play with this later but almost all my VRAM was gone so I figured I am not going to push it.
Did not feel any FPS drops but I usually keep my at about 30 FPS since I don't really need more than that to enjoy a game. I figure once I can play Offline, my FPSs should get a bit higher than that. I did updated my drivers to the latest one and I saw no difference... gain or downgrade but I am not one to play at more than 30 FPS so take what I say with that in mind.
Key mapping took me a few tries and I was already getting upset because of it, finally after the 3rd or 4th attempt it saved my changes. I also had some difficulties understanding the different options, like the difference between Aim and Aim Mode as an example, so I later learn I had assign the wrong button to my Takedown/Melee button.
Loadout is minimalistic and you either go with what you have or opt for logout of the game... hoping for more options once the game is released. After all, we are ghosts and not preschoolers. I have always started playing with a sniper rifle and here I have to start with an assault weapon and SMG + side arm.
Driving vehicles & Helo (so far), this really needs to be address and quick, no need to tell you why as many people have already posted why. Helo is another issue but not as worse as I thought it was going to be.
After the initial driving taking on the scenery I approached the first guy on top of the stairs, I got so close to the guy I could have whispered sweat nothings onto his ears, remember guys, I was playing on Ghost. I forgot what key my takedown was, and luckily I did because I learn something else as well, after the initial shock that I did not take the guy down, I stood there looking like an idiot and I thought for sure I was dead immediately but, to my surprise (not in a good way) the guy turns around and starts to give me a speech that lasted 2 to 3 seconds and then he blasted me full of lead. OK, that should have been mission failed but again, to my dismay, one of my teammates came to revive me and all is well in the world.Guys, I am playing on GHOST level, this is supposed to be the Hardcore of the Hardcore levels, blink and you're dead kind of a level.
Weapon movement feels clunky, hard to explain but I am wondering if this can be fix with an ingame setting somewhere? Perhaps I should play with mouse settings ingame? I hate 3rd person shooters but I have played other games and they do not feel this awkward. Its like the movement has a slight delay and quirk movement, not smooth or fluid.
So I start walking while crouched after my teammates kill the baddie before reviving me and I got closer than what the pictures below show... Sorry, don't know how to embed them since I am not very social media correct. I can not stress this enough... Walking while crouched, mid day, guy is looking at me full LoS and I am able to about 20 meters before he starts giving me the speech and not shoot me dead?
So again I am dead and this time it does mission failed me, I am guessing 2 strikes and you are out? ok. I get back, now I want to try my side arm so I shot the first guy with 2 headshots and the other dude with another 2 headshots. At this time I am not utilizing my ai teammates but I also did not put them on hold so they are behind me a long ways. I keep walking for about 10 seconds (after I had just shot the 2 guys remember, one of them was playing soccer?) when one of them alerts me that we have Tangos Danger Close so of course I take cover and wait, and wait, and wait some more until I release that he was talking about the 2 tangos I shot dead a few seconds back.
Keep on going to the next building and I hear one guy giving up and I don't know if he is talking to me or someone else. I also heard the tangos coming from below taking the metal stairs talking about how they heard a sound (I used a suppressed side arm to kill the last two tangos) and now they are looking for me. At this point I don't know if I am in the game, whether the sound is ahead of the gameplay or what the hell is going on but I am confused. I hope this is an easy fix.
Rescue the dude we need to rescue, comeback to the extract house in the helo, that was a horrible horrible ride but we made it. So another mission is given to us and all of a sudden I go back to my loadout and lo and behold, I find a sniper rifle and a red dot for my MP5... Ok so things can be picked up quick. Not what I am hoping for as an Elite Operator I don't understand the appeal of keeping us in the grind leveling up, never did even in the original GR but ok.
We get into a vehicle again but this time my minimap is not showing me the way I need to take with the yellow brick road. ok, we're not in Kansas anymore but I see the Yellow Arrow on top of my minimap so I am ok. We get to the main road and I stop to take on the view. I see what looks like a convoy and I don't know what to do, the convoy is passing by, my minimap goes full red (this is new) and my Teammates get out of the windows of the vehicle and open fire on the convoy hitting nothing at all and the noise is so peaceful that whomever is talking to me sounds clearer than the sound coming from my teammates weapons and the convoy shooting back
After the convoy has passed I hear the CIA handler talking about a convoy that will pass and that it would be cool if we could take it down... well, DUH!!!
That is all I was able to get to before I told myself I needed a break from all the new things I had learn and suffered getting to play the beta. This is the best I can do at being Politically Correct. The game has some good things but it is worth talking about it because that doesn't need fixing, this is.
Now, you can say that nothing needs fixing and the game is swell the way it is and that is your prerogative... nothing gain nothing lost since we all know you will sell the game with or without these fixes.
In the Control options, F1 - F4 are supposed to be keys to command your teammates but they were not working, only through the command wheel was I able to make them move, hold, regroup, etc. I need to learn and understand what all of the key buttons do, too many for my like but it is better than only a few so the learning is on me.
Played for a bit a few moments ago and perhaps I don't understand what each key options do but I am tagging my tangos so my teammates and I can sync shot and pressing the "Q" button does not seem to do anything because when I fire my teammates don't do anything (at least in GRFS they would shoot after my first shot) and even after I press "F" (fire orders) they still don't fire. Is this a bug? Is it perhaps because I have Markers OFF?
Anybody?
I am using a Wired Logitech Illuminated Keyboard and a Logitech G9 mouse... please don't tell me I have to buy a new Keyboard and Mouse to play the game. I understand this is a beta but c'mon, so close to release?
Also, is there a Link I could go to learn all of the options and what exactly they do? I am guessing going back to school is not such a bad thing if I want to enjoy the game.
Oh, one more thing Devs... Please fix or just change this thing where we need to "Click + Hold" some buttons, like "E" for example to get in or out of vehicles, etc. Unless there is a valid logic for it that I can't see it. It is a waste of time and plenty of times you want to get in and out in a jiffy. Granted, it is a lot quicker than Far Cry but still... perhaps the option to just toggle it?
Another thing... what's with the inability to use multiple keys for multiple choices/options? And/or, once we rebidding them, they loose their initial abilities to do so?
Console Port or PC from scratch, these are things that you guys think its ok to forget to do but expect the customer to pay full price for? WHY??? Put yourselves in our shoes and think about it, aside from the dishonesty of it all, you are killing all of the enjoyment that one can get while playing one of your games. I would think you guys would be against buying something that is broken or not fully working, am I right? So why would you expect everyone to buy a broken game with the promise of a patch? Seriously guys, think about it... where and when are you going to draw the line?
This is definitely NOT a Ghost Recon game but at least it could be fun once you decide in your head to just call it Wildland but if we must suffer through the basic of things? C'mon, where is that pride you guys are talking about when you interview on worldwide Videos? Show it!!! We don't mind paying for fully working stuff but you got to stop deceiving and bamboozling us with this half assed unfinished games.
Patching bugs is one thing, patching things that should have been in the game to begin with is just wrong. and yes, I know and I understand that since this is called a Beta you can get away with the "We're still developing it" but C'mon... a month from release?
Edit 02/06/17... A lot of talk about this being a Beta game and not really the full release game. The game still in development but even if I don't know anything about making a game or the time it takes to finish it, I do know that a month from release means the game is going to be release like this or with subtle changes so I am not holding my breath that many of the things that we Hardcore GR players have asked for will be in the game... perhaps in the 1st day miracle and or subsequent patches/updates. Again, take what you want from it but I am not holding my breath.
I want to Thank UBI for giving me access fully knowing that I have been vociferous about the game being arcade-ish and still, allowing me to test it... unfortunately, my mind did not change from what I thought the game was going to be but thanks nonetheless.
