Some tips for Ubisoft from an actual helicopter pilot

Coming from a UH-60M Blackhawk pilot, please, for the love of god give us realistic helicopter controls. I'm not sure what this abomination of a simplified (but really way more convoluted) system you guys made but it is by far and away the worst part of the game. No yaw control and no ability to slide left or right in a hover? Also what's with the nose rapidly and uncontrollably rising when you're trying to descend? Just please give us the standard cyclic, collective, pedals setup. Battlefield did this and everyone was crashing helicopters left and right to begin with but people learned the controls and got better and now they're able to do incredible things...the basic concept of mastery over a system by learning it is a huge part of what makes games so much fun. Also in the standard setup you're able to actually aim the fixed guns. Your gunships are completely useless without yaw control in forward flight Also stop switching the camera from one shoulder to the other for no reason all the time. That sucks too.

All of the above and the fact that you feel like a stupid Rookie watching the Helicopter pirouetting all over the sky going nowhere in a hurry. None of us are real pilots anyways, well, most of us I guess LOL but we are supposed to be Elite Operators so Immerse us into it. The movements are very arcade-ish anyways so why don't you just make it simple, you know... up, down, left, right, move forward. simple. Get from point A to point B

I agree with absolutely all of this. Passed this feedback onto the devs after my first time in a helicopter. They've made improvements to the existing system, and there IS a mouse/cyclic style flight mode, but it's still over-simplified.

I hate not having the ability to slide left/right or adjust yaw manually.

Battlefield 3/4 and the Arma 3 basic helicopter flight model are fantastic examples of how to do it right in video games. They really just need to replicate that system. Doesn't matter that it's not unique, because it's better than what they have and unless they can come up with something better it would be a HUGE improvement over the current system.

Rudder controls on the aircraft vehicles (L1 & R1), similar to GTA5 or Battlefield 4 or 3.

All of the above. I agree completely the repeated nosing up on forward/reverse movements. The same problem exists when flying close to the deck, throttling up to gain altitude to get over the hump while moving forward the bird goes right into a nose dive. Its a problem of trying to combine the stick and rudder with forward movement on a single control.

The plane is horrible too for the very same reason yaw control. Any bank into a hard turn and the rubber drops the nose sending you into a nose dive.

L2-R2 do nothing if you're the pilot, give us at least rudder. Could use a combo keyset of Square + L2 or R2 for side to side movement in the whirlie-birds.

    The S.

I have agree with you because I use to fly a CH-45 Chinook for aerial fire fighting duty before the company grounded me since I did some thing dangerous and could gotten myself and co-pilot injured or killed. But these days I fly Airbus H145 for a hospital flying patient for care. I loved BF3 and BF4 style of flight because for living I fly and it was like second nature flying it in BF3 and BF4. Because flying choppers for living I have gotten into flying aircraft. You can say I have Aviation on blood thanks to uncle who taught me to fly since he use fly in Vietnam on the Bell AH-1 Huey Corbra.

Agree with all of this. Had fun playing the beta over the weekend but the flying controls where a real let down which was a shame.

I'm not a pilot but the helicopter controls are awful.
I have no idea what system a true pilot would want, but my suggestion for PS4 would be this:-

    R2 - up
    L2 - down
    Right stick - fly forward/backward, left/right
    Left stick - rotate right/left, nose down/up

At present there is no way of putting the aircraft into a dive or flaring to a stop.
And please add an aiming reticule.

Other than this I think the game is amazing.

Just wanted to add, it might be nice to give choices for control. Simple, complex, pilot.

I agree. They should ad the option to choose between basic and advanced controls.

Also, to have the ability to let your team rappel down from a chopper would be a cool feature.
