My friend invited me for the beta registration and I saw the email. and accepted it, but I have yet to receive a verification code. How long does it take or do I have to go retrieve it?

If it is the pc version give it a few hours then load up Uplay client and the game should be listed there. But so you know the key to it is tied to DL all you have just DL and wait for game server to go online and hit play. But if it is for the Xbox one or PS4 I'm sorry I can't help you there since I'm using the PC version.
