The following is my proposed rule set for the upcoming For Honor tournament which myself and @G. Crooks are currently working on for the Reckless Gaming community. I encourage everyone who is interested to offer any criticisms or suggestions that they think would help make it better.
I am also looking for people to act as judges in this and any events that we might hold in the future.

Introduction:
Welcome to the very first RGN For Honor Tournament.
Here we will decide who is the reigning champion in both 1v1 and 2v2 as well as in the 4v4 brawl modes. We will also look at adding other modes in the future, once people have a chance to become more familiar with them.
This tournament is more than just about who is the best at the game, it is also a chance to meet fellow RGN members and to get to know others who share the same passion for this amazingly deep and satisfying game.
That said, the winner of this competition will be considered the champion of For Honor in our community, and will have bragging rights for as long as they are able to hold on to that title.
This rule set is your guide to all of the rules that will bind you during the tournament, and will likely be used in all future tournaments as well. I have made every effort to keep it clear and easy, and the intention is to keep everybody on the same page so that the focus can be on competition and fun.
All participants are responsible for knowing these rules ahead of the event, and failure to abide by them will result in disqualification from the tournament.
Terms and Lingo:
Bracket - This is the chart indicating who is fighting who and when, as well as who moves forward and who is knocked out. At the end of the 1v1 tournament there will be one person left standing and that will be our champion.
Match - This is the meat of our competition. in the case of 1v1, it will consist of 2 players dueling for the best of 5 rounds. The winner of each match will move on to fight the parallel winner and the loser will face the parallel loser. This is a "double elimination" style tournament, so losing a match doesn't necessarily mean you're out of the tournament, but obviously the more you win, the better your chances of making it to the final round.
Tournament Directors - These are the organizers of the tournament and responsible for making sure things are running smoothly. In this case there are 2 of us, myself, Cyanyde and G. Crooks.
Judges - These are the people who will be helping us to enforce the rules and making sure that everyone is playing fairly. If there is a dispute, these are also the ones who will review any evidence presented and make a decision.
Registration:
Registration will be open until the Wednesday before the tournament is to be held. (In this case Feb 15th) Last minute entries will be considered if there is a low number of players participating, but in order to be guaranteed a spot, it is recommended that you register as early as possible.
Bracket Seeding:
We will make every attempt to seed players based on region in order to keep a level playing field in regards to ping and timezones. If it turns out that we have more players in a specific region, it is possible that you will face someone from another region, but we will avoid this as much as we can. The goal is to encourage players to face opponents that they have not met in combat before, where possible.
Match Play:
This is the main section and should be studied carefully, if you are taking part in this competition. Failure to read and understand these rules is not a valid excuse for breaking them, and may be grounds for disqualification from the tournament.
*
Choosing Sides (4v4/2v2) - All players taking part in the tournament must indicate if they are part of a team or solo. Solo players will be placed in a pool which will then be used to create teams based on region, skill level and age. It is recommended that you have already established a team before entering into the competition, but we realize that this isn't always possible and would like to allow solo players the opportunity to take part in the larger matches.
Choosing Characters - This tournament will be using the standard character selection method. This simply means that you may use whichever character you choose without limitations. In the future, we may allow blind selections, but this is to be discussed at a future time.
This is non-negotiable and is intended to ensure fair play and to allow players to consider their strategies going into a match.
Playing the Match - Once characters are selected and players ready up, the match will begin as usual. From this point it is up to the players to conduct the match as they would with a normal game and at the end it is the responsibility of the winner to report the results to the judge assigned to that match.
Both players are required to record the game play from their pov, in order to assist in resolving any disputes, as well as for a video of the tournament highlights at it's conclusion.
Judges may request this footage for any reason, even if there is no dispute.
Matches must be played through to their conclusion and not interrupted for any reason. If a player disconnects or leaves the match while it is in progress, they will be considered to have forfeited the match and the opposing player will be considered the winner.
In the case of 2v2 or 4v4, the remaining players may agree to continue using the bot to fill the empty space provided that all of them agree. This may not be reversed and if it is an issue going forward, the option to continue will be removed.
If they do not agree to continue then there must be a rematch held as soon as the issue causing the disconnection has been resolved. If it is not done within 1 hour of the scheduled match time, the disconnected player will cause their team to forfeit the match.
For this reason all players are responsible for ensuring that they are able to play the entirety of the match, and that their internet connection is adequate to allow them to stay connected to the server for the entirety of the match.
Reporting Rule Violations - If a player or a judge believes that someone has broken any of the rules, they may put forward a dispute against the opposing player or team. This should be done before the start of the next match.
In this event, all recorded footage will be submitted to the judges for inspection and a decision will be made.
It is suggested that any and all evidence be put forward as the more evidence that is made available, the better chance the judges will have of making a solid ruling.
In the event that a rule is found to be violated, the guilty player will forfeit their remaining matches and be removed from the tournament.
Depending on the severity of the infraction, they may also be black-listed from taking part in future events.
Reporting Equipment Failure - Match interruptions due to Internet/ISP issues, game glitches or freezing or anything else that is unavoidable and out of the players' control will be considered void and must be replayed exactly as originally intended.
Please keep in mind that this game is brand new, and may be subject to game breaking issues. All efforts will be made to ensure uninterrupted play, but things happen and players should understand this.
Rule Enforcement and Disqualification - Despite the best intentions of everyone involved, rules unfortunately can and do get broken whether due to ignorance of the rules, accidentally or even maliciously.
The following guidelines are intended to cover these possibilities and will be enforced to the letter. Please understand that the entire point of this tournament is to have fun for all involved and in order for this to run smoothly, these rules must be in place.
1. Everyone starts out with a clean slate.
2. Rule violations must be reported immediately, and evidence must be provided.
3. The Directors reserve the right to modify or add rules as needed, with appropriate notice.
Match Forfeiture - If a player is in forfeit, they will automatically lose the match in question. They may still move on the the next phase of the tournament, but the forfeited round will be counted as a loss.
Additional Rules:
1. Don't be a ****
2. Any player who does not show up for their scheduled match without a valid reason will be given until five (5) minutes past their agreed start time. After this grace period, the match will be forfeit and the player/team who is present will be declared the winner.
3. There will be no ties, if there is a disconnection or the match is otherwise incomplete, there will be a tie-breaking round to determine a clear winner. If this is not possible, it will be rescheduled to a later time, but until the results are determined, the tournament will not proceed without a clear and fair result.
4. Anyone who is found to "throw" a game intentionally, or is found to be working with the opposing team will be immediately removed from the competition, everyone involved in this event is expected to not only follow these rules, but the rules of Reckless Gaming as a whole and is also expected to show good sportsmanship and "honor". If you are not willing to abide by this then you will not be welcome at this, or at any future events.
5. Players are expected to be recording at all times during the matches that they are involved in. They are allowed and even encouraged to stream the event, but are not allowed to interact with chat during game play. They may interact before and after the match, but interaction with chat during the match will be considered grounds for disqualification.
6. Any contradictions between the RGN Community rules and the ones in this set will go to the RGN rules. This is an attempt to keep the tournament fair and fun for everyone involved. These rules may be added to or changed with appropriate warning, and the directors reserve the right to disqualify or remove any player for any reason, at their sole discretion.
7. Use of game glitches, hacks or exploits will result in immediate disqualification and black listing from any future competitions.
If you feel something is unclear or not covered in this rule set, please do not hesitate to reply to this post or message myself (Cyanyde) or G. Crooks either on this forum, in Discord or in TS as required.
Hey Cyanyde! Looks like you put a lot of thought into this tournament and I'd hate to see it not get noticed. I'm going to move this into the General FH forums so it can pick up some more traction there. Are you planning this for the open beta? I believe there are a few community-run tournaments that will be going on during the open beta if you're interested in collaborating (I believe there is one on /r/forhonor)
Good luck!
I love this, i only have one problem. with the internet i have i cant stream and play. does this mean even tho im on the board a lot and a huge fan of for honor that i wouldn't be able to be part of this?
i think this needs to be changed. im a VERY good player. got on the leaderboards for the beta and it would be a shame if i couldn't participate in this just because i couldn't stream.
pleaaase change this rule!
thanks...
Where do I sign up? i already love the competitive promise this games holds and would love to get into that flow ASAP.
got a squad for the 4v4s already
two quick side notes.. What platform is this for?
and you said it was "round robin" that entails every team playing every single team.. i think you meant Double Elimination, with a losers Bracket
No, it means that people who get in trouble in one tournament, are back given a fresh start in the next one, unless of course they get black listed for a major infraction. I will clarify that, it was intended to be more clear but when I wrote it I was half asleep and not paying attention.. Nice catch!Originally Posted by bsftsfk Go to original post
I would like to sign up! Looking forward to for honor competitive scene and would love to get in as soon as possible, also any high level skill players that's looking into doing competitive let me know. We could col-lab on knowledge of characters and duel to coach each other on mistakes and become better. Only for serious players that are planning to be in the top tier of competitive players on this game. On ps4 and my GT is: Lezllo spending the time on this beta devoted purely to 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 and personal skill raising and if you want the same LETS GRIND
Basically what Peligrad said. Also, the first player that announces his character is at disadvantage because the second one can counter-pick.
I've played tournaments with similar rule and it was the opposite of fair play. Just let people play what they want without telling anyone (unless it's judge).
