Not if everyone keeps playing Orochi because of how many characters it plays better against...Originally Posted by KnifeInUrNeck Go to original post
I like the Orochi, I really do. I think this hero and Nobushi are the most classical representation of the samurai class. And I was really hoping to make this class my favorite, but the Orochi has some major disadvantages. It's like playing as a mosquito against a rhino for with some of these other heroes. The Orochi has relatively less abilities and strengths to give it an advantage against other classes.
It has less health, so it can't take a whole lot of hits. Range is medium, so you have no choice but to get up close. You are forced to always be moving in and out while attacking, which really drains your stamina. And what really killed him was what Ubisoft did after the Alpha. They changed the Orochi's deflect ability from block to dodge, making it so you have to dodge towards the attack, instead of just timing your block. That nerf really killed this class, because now you have to time and mash your buttons. Not to mention that if you time it wrong, you go straight into the attack and get hit.
Compared to the other heroes, the Orochi has little offensive or defensive abilities to help give it an advantage. The Peacekeeper has to get really close to be effective, but she can do a lot of bleeding damage, and the Berserker has an infinite chain attack that gives the enemy little room to breath. The Nobushi can do bleeding damage while keeping people at bay, and the Shugoki can kill anyone instantly with that death grip of theirs. And the Kensei has several combos with unblockable finishes. The Orochi only has that deflect ability, which is extremely hard to use.
As much as I like the Orochi, Ubisoft has made it really, really difficult to love when its so difficult to use effectively. Right now, I'm actually really hoping that the next DLC Hero for the samurai is another swordsman. One that can be used more competently.
The Orochi is a perfectly good class with strong offensive options and potent counter attacks.Originally Posted by CaesarVI00 Go to original post
Keep at it and you'll soon change your mind about him.
Oh, I am definitely going to continue playing as the Orochi. As much as it frustrates me, I still like that class too much to simply abandon it. However, I'm still going to hold out hope that they change its deflect ability to what it originally was, and that the next DLC Hero will be another swordsman. Like the Ronin Class I posted.Originally Posted by Aarpian2 Go to original post
I kinda hope Orochi gets a nerf just because it is literally the least fun class to play vs. Even if your another Orochi. What makes it worse is everyone plays them, I managed to get matched vs 8 orochi players in a row yesterday, then got another 5 in a row just today. It would be less frustrating if more people would just play something else.
I won't say anything in regards to balance since I barely play the orochi, but will admit they are completely anti-fun to play vs, even if your winning. It just feels like theres nothing you can do but cheese them out. They are definitely beatable, but you have to give up any concept of having fun with the match your in and proceed to spam wahtever cheese you find works.
This is pretty funny...Originally Posted by ReJaCr Go to original post
You do realize that Orochi has only 20 less hp than Conq, Raider, Warlord...
He has less than 1 heavy attack less hp than the tanks...
People who claim "assassins are so squishy compared to x" are so off base...
It's not like in team fortress 2 where the heavy has twice as much hp as the scout... we're talking a small enough margin of extra hp where it's within the margin of overkill.
I'm not saying that it's not appreciable... but if you think any class is "shrugging off hits" then you clearly have never played a heavy...
The Orochi is a solid character - and for a solid number of people, this character boils down to mashing light attacks from different directions with a heavy reliance on top-attacks, Easy to play, does not mean overpowered. Easy to play, means predictable - because the question I'd ask, is how many are counter-GBing, parrying and deflecting? Not that many, and I've fought a fair few and observed a fair few on my team.
The attack speed of assassins could be a little lessened sure (same goes for the Warden's top attack), but the deflect window could be widened as well.
