    thank Swife

I was looking at playing this or Lawbringer; but Kensei just seems like the stars have to align for a person to really be good at it due to his design.

I think the class may be OK at early stages, but at prestige levels ATM I'm feeling the other classes bring more to the table, unless the class gets patched.

The reason why people rarely play him is because his tag is mislabeled. He should actually be set to 'hard' because of how much effort it takes to psych someone out as him and his moves are slow. Every other character in the game has a faster kit (yes, even Raider but only by a little bit) so it makes sense that people wouldn't play him that much.

    ----------------------

    Aarpian2,

Kensei is labeled "adaptable" for that reason. His kit heavily relies on mind games. His kit seems weak because nobody really plays at a high skill level with him yet - the beta was only three days long so it's difficult to get top quality gameplay out of him and there were 8 other heroes to choose from so numbers get spread a little thin.

Kensei, like all characters, in the right hands can do some serious work and it's true, he is one of the heroes who has to work for his kills much harder but that's pretty rewarding.

Being the underdog (I would consider him this) doesn't really mean you're out of the game 100%, it just means when you (Kensei) does come up, people are positively surprised because of what his real potential can do.
Kensei is listed as "adaptable" because it's referring to dominion.
The beta we just had was 3 days long. Before that we had the December alpha, the November tech test 2, the September alpha, tech test 1 and some players have had opportunities to play before that too.

Jason Vandenberg himself says that he had to relearn to play his own game because as soon as he jumped in with the community there were people blowing him the **** out and he had to re-examine the entire combat system because people were doing things he didn't think were possible (like parrying damn near everything). If you think the devs have some hidden depths in their characters that they're just waiting for us to get good enough to unlock, you're wrong - the community is already better then them, and there's a near consensus among the better players that Kensei is *** and needs help.

You will see pvpers gravitate towards the I win classes IE Orochi, Peacekeeper, and Nob (spear lady)

This past beta I see that the Kensai just didn't have the representation, which leads me to believe this class is very low tier (no disrespect to the class leaders here)

Id like to see someone like Oroboro, Peeve, or Ray Dhimiti play the class and see what it can do.
I played mostly Kensei in the open beta ( I mostly played duels) and I got paired with quite a few prestige 1 players of a lot of classes. After I got through getting my *** kicked for a day I realized how to play him and barely lost with him. You cant be aggressive with the Kensei. You need to play defensively early on and make the opponent pay for every attack. Once they are vary to attack and the fight slows down, you can use the dash attack (his front dash attack is pretty fast and if you time it right, you can strike before the opponent) or simple timing using his range. His defense/counterstrike is really strong with his sidedash attacks and long range. You just cant fight on the inside or try to outspeed anyone. Everyone beats him for the first punch. However his ability to switch up his combos and start from anything is amazing. You just need to find a rythm.
I gotta say Im obviously not top level but I havent felt him underpowered at my lvl (lvl 17). Also you can see Soulancient use him and he is pretty good. If I could change one thing, it would be a faster light attack but I think he is fine. My only problem was with shield guys but it could have been because I barely played against them.

I think the kensei and the warden and both equally terrible for many of the same reasons (no damage, almost no moves, other classes do what they do better and do more as well). I can't see why you would play kensei over orochi, it's just a strictly better kensei.

Both the warden and the kensei are slow as **** as well so there's not even an upside to their terrible damage and lack of moves there either.

To be fair, their unblockable has a VERY obvious animation and can only be used after 2 attacks, so it's easy to predict.

Even if you cancel it into the sideways version, a Noboshi can just Hidden Stance.

WHAT WHAT!! Kensei weakest. HAHAHAHAHAHa, its the most character I played like in 3 days. Got to level 20, with gear at 19, and kensei is amazing! When the thing parry, goe light the bam hit with heavy. plus the sword range is at comfortable range, make sure the enemy doesnt get close or GGWP. Gotta love the unblockable, but its tru though, the unblockable need to be speed up a little cause them little guy can easily dodge it. KENSEI FTW!!!!!!

and oh, the unblockable is devastating, if the enemy has lower gear than me, either its going to be one finisher kill or 80% health gone. I go with damage and revenge specs.

This is a fairly accurate assessment. The only class that's worse right now with their basic moveset is the Raider, and at least he can run people off cliffs. The Kensei can land a guaranteed overhead heavy after a guard block/stun, which the Raider cannot do.

Kensei got a small damage buff in the recent update, which is good, but his real issue is that he needs more or better combos, not more damage per hit.

you should look into the numbers again...

kensei does pretty decent damage and can take 1/2 of an assassins health with one combo.

and the ONE thing that makes the kensei a freaking nightmare to play against is his combo-attack-tracking...
that thing is way too good and needs to be looked at.

its harder to time a normal dodge against kenseis attack than it is to time a deflect ...
