I hope it is not too late to suggest this.
If it is not possible, there is a very simple workaround, to give us the same freedom with the existing tools in game. Given that we always know which team we are playing as, before selecting our loadouts: Add more loadouts instead of 3. This will allow us to simply create an additional attack/def based loadout with the visuals we like. Great if we care about looks and if we don't, no harm is done with a couple more available loadouts.

The armor style, color patterns, symbols, engravings, materials and their combination are personal preference. So I don't expect everyone to agree and share my taste. We get an ok amount of customization for our characters. Some look absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, several bad / restricting factors remove a lot of possibilities, that would otherwise be available to us. We have a lot less freedom than we think. Especially when a certain color scheme or material is our favorite. We will have to adjust and sacrifice another teams visuals, just to make our favorite work.

I will try to list and explain some of the most irritating and "customization breaking" things I encountered. Pretty much all of these could be avoided with team based visual loadouts. Just talking visuals here, not to be confused with stats / feat loadouts already in the game.

And keep in mind, that these issues usually work in tandem. Creating 1 good looking set of armor / symbols / engravings / material / color pattern is fine and working as intended. Upon switching to another team's colors, not so much.

-Freedom to use different materials based on the color scheme / team used. I would love to have golden steel for red/gold attacking and silver steel for blue/white defending knights. And then the obvious black steel for duels^^ This is not possible. Some material choices look pretty bad with certain color patterns; once again forcing us to change things up.

-Symbols that look perfect on the attacking team, might clash horribly with the defender colors. Gold symbol on double dark red looking good, but only mediocre defender options to pair it with. (please add the gold symbol on double dark blue to defender colors, its a neutral pattern for now)

-Paint Patterns (especially the ones covering most of the armor, like nobushi reputation 2 fans) have very different looks, based on color scheme. This can make symbols only viable with certain colors unavailable to a different team. The black/red/red attacker pattern on nobushi removes most of the fans from the rep2 pattern, leaving room for a symbol on the back. This however makes using any 3-colored defender setup impossible, as the symbol will overlap with all the fans (visible because of the 3rd color) and look terrible.

-Armor has default colors, that can horribly clash with certain team colors. Red patches on armor with enforced defender colors, or default green leather on attacking peacekeeper. The default armor looks good, but did the design team not account for enforced team colors?

-Default spikes / patterns on armor can interfere with most other choices. Unavoidable white lines on some nobushi robes; shoulder spikes messing up medusa engraving; default patterns located in the place for symbols
