So throughout the beta we have had access to 9 characters. There has been a lot of claims of balancing issues. Whilst they may be the case in the state of the beta this certainly wont be the case in full release. How can anyone say a character is unbalanced when potentially the direct counter isnt in the game? For example nobushi's hard counter may well be lawbringer due to the health pool and long range with weapon! or shugoki with the charge attacks etc. To comment on the balance of any particular faction or character without access to the full character content will just cause further issues when the game is released if nerfs are made. Seems backwards to alter a game based on opinions of 3/4 of the characters.
Ubisoft asked players about character balance. And players respond. Ubisoft themselves created character balance polls. So, why is issue now according to you? Also, keep in mind that in 4v4 or 2v2, rock-paper-scissors works, but in 1v1, it can not work so well. Arguments like "Nobushi is not OP, because charXY can beat him" is alibism. Do I really need to be beaten up by almost every Nobushi until I play char XY? So why not to leave duel against Nobushi in that case.
I think that characters are well balanced for 2v2 and 4v4, but not for 1v1. Rock-paper-scissors does not work there. Ubisoft should consider different balancing for 1v1, 2v2 and 4v4.
I never said it was the player base's fault that they are asked opinions about what they had available. I just hope they take what is said with a grain of salt as not all aspects of the game have been tested by the general public. Yeah I get the 1v1 balance issues but due to the game it is I dont think 1v1 will ever be truly balanced unless they use a tactic overwatch did and pit the same character against each other. Its always going to be the same with any game that has split character classes. Just look at the majority of moba's or as mentioned overwatch. Every character has the potential to beat another but are kitted in a way that they are made to be counters to one and not another.
But Ubisoft will need to do something about it. I played mainly duels in beta and was facing mostly Nobushi, Peacekeaper, Orochi. I barely see someone play Kensei for example. I saw like 3 of them in those 3 days, while I spent tenths of hours dulelling. When 1v1 will not be balanced, some characters will be used too much while others almost none. That is not balance.Originally Posted by br4d124 Go to original post
Bungie was always balancing weapons in Destiny so as all weapons are used, little less or little more frequently, but somehow similar. And it worked quite well, Ubisoft is not stupid. I believe that when they see char statistics and see that 30 % duels are with Nobuchi and 2 % with Kensei, they will power up Kensei and nerf Nobuchi. This will make game more variable. You should meet all chars during dueling.
Believe me that meeting 6 Nobushi ans 2 peacekeapers out of 10 duels is stopping to be fun.
This is really weird to me. From all the duels I've done I barely versed any Nobushi. For me probably around 60% were Wardens, and quite an even mix between the rest with a slight Orochi favour.Originally Posted by awolcz Go to original post
Edit: I'm in EU btw, if that makes a difference.
I'm also in EU. I was meeting more Nobushi's in later phase of beta. Day 1 was almost Nobushi free, day 4 was Nobushi mania. Seems like people tried all chars and then sticked to the strongest. Day 4 was basically Nobushi + assassinsOriginally Posted by Odee.. Go to original post
This is the problem with a game of this type, it will never be balanced and people will always have there say on character power levels. The way I see things happening is there will be a couple of classes that are over performing at any one time. No matter what changes you make to those there will then be another class which benefits and then is picked more often. It'll be frustrating when you choose to main a particular character. I'd be lying if I said I didnt main nobushi for the full beta. But because I spent a lot of time with the character I can see where problems stem from. It seems that bleed needs slight alterations. But this definitely didnt mean I won every battle or duel and I can take on a nobushi easily as other characters because I know how she plays. Its just my opinion but I think its too early to majorly nerf characters. Maybe a month into the game when people have played and learned all the characters have to offer.Originally Posted by awolcz Go to original post
yes, I think we both agree that some balancing will be needed in the future and that it will be better to do it on some big data. For example, when it will be clear from statistics that Nobushi class win rate is 70 % and Kensei 20 %, there is something wrong and some adjustments are needed. I'm sure that this game will be balanced perfectly over time.
I dont think I'm playing a game at the minute that doesn't need some amount of balancing. However I think in terms of factions played I definitely met more vikings than anything else! Think it shows quite well in the state of the faction war at the end of the beta! That's another area that needs looking at. Knights got smashed because there wasn't as many playing them.
Im actually surprised to see people complaining about nobushi, I main Raider and orochi and nobushi is the least of my problems, in fact orochi counters her with his quick strikes and ability to disengage fast. from all my games I have most trouble with kensei on my orochi and on US I usually see orochi, orochi, orochi and maybe one kensei. I suggest adding a ban system so you can ban that one hard counter and let your opponent ban something he doesn't like instead of heavy character adjustments since I personally wouldn't consider my opinion on the subject competent enough until I've played decent amount with most of the available options
