A lot of people complain about being able to get pushed off ledges or into spikes, and since aside from positioning there is only a single prompt that can determine whether you are one-shot-killed or not, I have a proposed solution. In the same way you can block an attack or counter a guard-break, give people a prompt to "catch" their footing before being knocked off a ledge. It doesn't have to be an easy prompt, but something that allows a skilled and focused player to prevent themselves from dying instantly would at least stop the common "Ledge kills OP" complaint.
Whether this is actually a needed mechanic, I can't say, because I think positioning around ledges is the main defense against such kills, but I haven't seen anyone else propose this idea yet and I wanted people to consider it.

I play the game cuz I like the fighting not gimmicky tricks for an easy win.
It's the guard break button, I've mapped it to "Q". There's this funny thing that happens when I press it and I don't think you'll ever believe me, but here I go. When you press a miraculous force of god prevents you from being thrown helplessly to your death. I know! I didn't believe my eyes, but it really works! And then, once you survive with Lord Gaben's blessing, you can toss THEM off into the abyss of salt and bitterness. Alternatively, you could learn how to play the game with it's current mechanics, before suggesting new ones.
I mean really, there already is a "don't insta-kill me" button, what good is a second one going to do if you cannot even successfully press the first? I generally don't toss people off cliffs unless I'm goofing off with friends, but when I do they stay away from ledges. I can't even tell you how many idiots tried to push me into the mire just to get shreked immediately with a counter break.
A quick summary of my argument, framed in my dark souls enthusiast mind set. Git Gud Scrub. (*repeated raider air humps*)
You make it quite easy for you, you scrublord. That's not how things work. It's a beta to point out flaws with the gameplay, not to watch godkings like you say broken mechanics are awwwwright because they can sometimes get around them. Everyone can. But they shouldn't have to focus on sweaty trash instead of actually playing the game. That's like saying oneshot snipers are fine in shooters because you can simply flank and shoot them while they watch their lane. Just because im good enough of a driver, does it mean I should be allowed to drift around someone crossing the street instead of stopping? Dude. You're not hardcore because you played dark souls. Many did and it's only hard for casuals. Everyone can time a dodge or hold down the block button and attack after figuring out how something moves after 20 attempts. Dark souls has no connection to the depth and needed balancing of this type of game.Originally Posted by Siphonario Go to original post
Give a very small window to press the dodge button just before falling off the cliff to catch yourself and that crap is solved. To many sweaty players out there who don't want to actually play and wanna end the game as a 5 sec "fight".
No! I second what Siphonario said.
Why do you want another button for escaping you from falling when there is already one? Doesn't make sense for me...
In fact I believe you should be able to fall from the edge even if noone pushes you over it. It looks so stupid and unrealistic when you are at the edge and running against invisible wall, unable to fall down... That will teach all players to take care about their movements and watching their surroundings.
