In my experience of For Honor I have played countless duels and matches. However, i have come across a huge game breaker for this game For Honor. This game breaker is the guard break. I would like to ask the developers to consider what I am saying right now. In many of my games I have dealt against numerous different styles of players. Players who throw, players who guard break and play aggressive, players who rely on agility and evasiveness, and players who solemnly rely on pure skill. Furthermore, the only problem in these styles would be the spam of guard breaking. I've recently dealt with numerous players that are starting to spam the guard break every chance they get. Granted, I do understand that this is a part of the game. However, this simple spam can harass a player to the point of raging and quitting the game.
I would like to ask the developers as a For Honor Alpha and Beta fan and tester to please consider adding a game mode(s), where players cannot guard break but only rely on dodges, blocks, and attacks. In addition, I know of many people and friends who are disgusted with the simple spam of guard break and throws, including myself. It pains me to see such a grand and fantastic game begin to lose it's entertainment so early even before the release date due to players desiring to spam a button that easily gives them an advantage every time.
I would also like to suggest that the developers would begin to add more maps or begin the starting area of the competitive players in areas where there are not pitfalls, spikes, or cliffs to be pushed toward. Although this is fun for a lot of players and can reward players with quick victories if they used their environment accordingly, I however and many others, desire to win by honoring my competitor in a skillful battle. Again, these are things that can lead players to leave For Honor because many cheap players are realizing they can get quick victories if they just spam guard break and spam melee for a victory or even throw opponents to their deaths every round.
Although these are just suggestions, if anyone else agrees or even disagrees to what I suggested please speak up and give your thoughts. I desire to make For Honor an even greater game for all types of players. I love this game and want to enjoy it in the way that makes the game fun and enjoyable for all people. Thank you for reading and thank you for your time.
I agree wholeheartedly that the guard break mechanic as of yet is extremely wanting, but I would rather see it reworked rather than removed. For example, I propose that guard break shouldn't lead into a guaranteed hit if the enemy is just in stance with you, rather it would be better if it only gave you a way in against enemies who are actively guarding against you, for example, if your enemy does nothing but stand there and block your attacks, a guard break will lead into a free hit to punish people who only turtle, while a guard break on a player that is only in stance but not guarding will only allow you to push them back or maybe give a light hit on specific characters. I also would like to see a reworking of being able to instantly tech a guard break to counter it, because I think that the guard break should be a tool that should require skill to hit, but give an actual reward when people hit it. In a way, countering a guard break with a guard break only encourages players to hide behind their shield even more as they will always be able to react to a guard break knowing they will not be punished. In addition to this, I don't see why guard breaks should land if someone is trying to avoid it with a dodge back and away. It should be a guard break, so it doesn't make sense for it to be effective against people who aren't guarding, but dodging. I would rather see the guard break be something like the shield break from Dark Souls 2 where if a player was simply just standing there only blocking your attacks with their shield, you could surprise them with a shield break and get a riposte. It made guard breaks more satisfying as you can still punish players who are just sitting there blocking all of your attacks but it wasn't something that you could just spam, because it had little range and was punishable. In conclusion, with how effective guarding in with this game, where all of the direction of enemy attacks highlighted by a piece of the UI way before they come out, guard breaking should be more of a tool to be able to punish players who stay behind shield for too long. It shouldn't be unavoidable, as I am sure many Wardens would not be pleased if it was so, but it should feel like an accomplishment to hit rather than a gimmick to cheese out an opponent.
