If you don't choose a specific territory to attack/defend, your war assets will be distributed equally to all territories of your faction in the end of the round. If you choose the territory than all your assets will shift the attack/defense ratio by 1-3%, which is usually enough to capture or defend since it feels like there are about 10 people in the world who know about this, including me.

    Agreed
Very much like playing Risk. If you fortify all your positions evenly, it is going to take forever to make a difference, but if you keep an eye on the progress by being proactive/reactive, your fortifications become key to the end result.

Interesting, I just checked that and you are correct. The leaderboard only shows "Generals", not everybody. My OP is incorrect as to what I thought the leaderboards indicated.
However, it has brought to light that:
    A) Not everybody knows/understands how it works due to incomplete instructions and/or lack of exposure
    B) Not everybody cares about it and are perfectly happy with their assets being distributed evenly, which may contribute to the end result but hinder the evolution of the map.

In which case I can only suggest that Ubisoft looks closer at how the mechanics should work and make it a bit more inmersive/interesting to ensure full participation as best as possible

    That is.....unfortunate.
By taking an interest you could reinforce areas that otherwise go neglected

War of the Factions would feel way more impactful and engaging if the actual involved factions were present in a fight. It kinda ruins the immersion when I defend my Samurai territory along with 3 knights heroes on my team against invading Vikings, whose team doesn't have a single Viking hero.

Please introduce a rule that limits you to only play your faction's heroes in War of the Factions. You can try heroes from other factions in gamemodes not related to WotF.

I originally played faction wars, but I didn't see any changes to what I was doing each time. I got caught up in playing matches. Also, with working around bugs I just wanted to start a match. I get kicked out quite often. I do think that faction war may work better as its own. The time frames for faction wars seem a little long for the short period we have to play the game. I do like the rewards that come with it.

Cuz no one cares, useless piece of fluff, such a massive waste of dev time instead of fixing glaring issues with the game or adding more content, Ranked modes like every recent multiplayer game.

    What a waste.

I agree with this. Faction war should be fought with faction warriors only. It takes away from choosing a faction if any fighter can join. I understand for beta purposes that we use all. It gives me options to know what I like.

Another question to ask is will we be able to have multiple faction wars going or will we have to finish a season before we start another war. The time frame seems long if I want to try another faction or if I just don't like the faction I started with

    That is a good point
