No...it is an eye-candy feature & not functional

That's there just for eye candy. In real life it was there for a backup to the gunsight in case its bulbs burnt out, so the pilot could flip up the ol' iron sights. But in IL2 we don't have to worry about light bulbs in our gunsights burning out so it's really got no use other than it was there on the real zero.

Since the sight is moving, they obviously coded an animation for it. The only reason that would be done, is if the iron sight will be functional.

So I'd look for it to have a key assignment in PF.

That would be nice, but I can't see the logic in your statement. How does the fact that it is animated ensure that it will be selecteable by key function, exactly?

All the animation proves is that it's there, and that it's animated.

I think Chuck's right. The iron sight in the P47 (although not animated) is there also solely because it is. There is no way to look through it and if you can find a way to use the ringsight in the Zeke, we'd all like to know.
