I am going to advocate that Revenge Mode be a mechanic that only builds up when you are getting outnumbered.
I thought Revenge Mode was put into the game especially to provide a chance to survive or win outnumbered situations. Playing the Beta I am soon learning that this is not the case. FYI I understand that some gear makes revenge mode build up faster, but I am saying it shouldn't build up if you are in a 1v1 scenario.
I know this happens from a few of my own experiences..
1. I was playing citadel gate against AI in Dominion because of a contract I had to complete. Me and this AI Bot were fighting by ourselves at the objective that is up the two ladders, I believe it's zone C. So me and this AI are fighting alone, I was Peacekeeper and I believe he was Orochi. I was absolutely destroying him but suddenly he gets Revenge Mode and proceeds to wipe me out.
2. Was still playing against AI and the map was Riverfront (I think that was the name). I captured zone A which is the zone above zone B and I see an Orochi coming from their spawn direction so I proceed to engage him. Now again, I was utterly destroying him and all of a sudden when his health was at nothing he gets revenge and I can't recall if I killed him or not after that, but I was pretty pissed.
3. This last one has some video with it: (Now granted I played pretty crapily in this specific fight but bare with me here)
Although I likely would have lost this fight anyway, I just don't think it's very fun or fair for revenge mode to happen in a intense, enjoyable 1v1 fight.
Some of you may say "Oh wait out the revenge mode and then go back in" but when I do that, it gives them a chance for their teammate(s) to come help.
So it basically goes from a 1v1 that is fair and enjoyable and I am winning to having to survive being outnumbered..
Please let me know your thoughts on this!
I honestly hate the Revenge mechanic. It promotes getting in bad situations with a get out of jail free card that you get by blocking a couple times which isn't that hard to do.
I almost never help teammates now unless i know we can kill them before they get the Revenge meter up, so basically not only does the Revenge mechanic promote getting out of position but also promotes not helping your teammates cause it could weaken their chances of winning that fight.
I think another huge problem with how Revenge works is that the meter can be filled no mater what even if your teammates are standing right next to you helping you, add on the fact you can go a full Revenge build for your character and get it in the first few seconds of getting in a 1v2. I think if me and my teammate were able to corporate a attack to corner a player he should not have the chance to 1v2 me and my teammate, it sucks to be him he got in the position of a 1v2 he probably deserves to die. If anything this mechanic should be to escape from a 1v2 not kill both of them.
I wouldn't say it ruins the game. I just think it should of course never be triggered in a 1v1 and also take a little bit longer to build up.Originally Posted by MichaelKovich Go to original post
If it didn't exist then we would be complaining about being outnumbered all of the time. Complaints about being outnumbered are exactly the reason revenge mode exists.
Right now, Revenge Mode is destroying my play experience. I don't know how much it comes up in 1v1s or 2v2s because there's no gear stats, but in 4v4 Dominion where gear is on, all I'm fighting right now are people with gear to basically have Revenge Mode up on cooldown. It's impossible to mitigate. At first I thought they were getting it all from blocking, so I started guard-breaking them a lot, but they also just seem to get it from damage, too, because the moment anyone's at one more hit to death, bam, they're a glowing golden god. Playing as a Peacekeeper, I roll away when I see they can trigger it because I'd hate to get knocked down and heavy attacked for free, and once it runs out, I go back in, we fight very briefly, bam, they're a glowing golden god. It's only worse in scenarios where there's more than two players involved. I think it's a bad mechanic in general, as it seems to promote poor decision-making, but as it is, it's just a mechanic to abuse, regardless of the situation. Much too strong.
Guys, there's a key reason that Conquerer got Revenge and the Warden didn't. Warden was dodging, Conquerer was blocking and parrying. Blocking and Parrying increase the Revenge meter, dodging does not. Blocking reduces damage by like 80%, but doesn't negate it, parrying does, as does dodging.
I think, and no offense here, he played the 1v1 game better. You saved your health by dodging, he used his as a resource by taking the hits as blocks/parries, turning that into Revenge to win the 1v1. It was a fair contest of strategies, but if you're going to be dodging more, you should be more aggressive.
Also, one final note, he only revenged to knock you down for the killing blow, a parry into guard break into throw into that wall behind you into heavy attack would've done the exact same thing.
Sorry to double post, but your exaggeration makes no sense. He's one hit from death, activates revenge, you wait it out, then fight and he's back to revenge without you getting a single hit in? When revenge runs out, the shield health disappears, so he's at the same HP he was before he started revenge, with 0 revenge bar....Originally Posted by FeriasTerras Go to original post
For me revenge is ok, I guess that on the video his revenge meter vent up due to your guardbreak spamming, may be guardbreaking boosts up revenge as a side-effect.
Yeah I realize I basically played that entire fight wrong but again I am just saying Revenge should never trigger when you are in a 1v1 fight. It's just stupid and not needed.Originally Posted by Gethseme Go to original post
And as my original post said, There have been times where I am 1v1ing and completely destroying my opponent but they still get revenge for no reason.
Yeah had to try and guard break since the bot Conqueror can auto-block almost every attack..Originally Posted by Warp_11 Go to original post![]()
I personally think it's fine to get a revenge in 1v1, since it usually means you've been biding your time and being defensive. It's just another strategy, there's even a tried-and-true counterplay method for making an opponent NEVER get revenge in 1v1 duels. If you really have a problem with revenge, a good way to counter opponents getting revenge in a 1v1 is to break the fight off and run around for about 10 seconds, running completely away from your opponent. After breaking combat for about 3 seconds, the revenge meter begins to drain. 10 seconds should be enough to drain it completely, after that stop and let him come to you and resume the fight. Also doesn't hurt to change to a better place to fight, sometimes. Environment matters lol.Originally Posted by xLeapingLizardx Go to original post
