the Knights balance feels just right
Hey everybody!
We hope you've had a great first day in the Closed Beta. We know it's still early times, but we wanted some of your early impressions on the character balance. In addition to voting, please share your thoughts/opinions in this thread below the poll as well.
Played the Peacekeeper up to Reputation 1 Level 10 so far in this test, also played her to Rep 2 in the previous PC technical test, and played strictly Orochi in the 2 tests previous to that.
I must say the Peacekeeper has kept me very much entertained for the 40+ hours I've played on her by now. She is extremely fun to play and her bag of tricks always leaves the enemy guessing. At first I disliked the fact she doesn't have guaranteed single hit, high damage moves, like the Orochi's overhead heavy after guardbreak, but her design is clearly based around pokes and distance control as opposed to high damage punish attacks, and she excels at this. She rewards methodical gameplay and can make opponents feel helpless.
As for damage, HP and Stamina, I would consider the first two very well balanced. She is an assassin, so low HP isn't flaw so much as a compromise. Her sustained damage is enormous, but burst is low, making her a different type of assassin in my eyes which is well and fine. However, I feel she doesn't have the base stamina to utilize her mobility and toolkit effectively.
She is required to perform many more actions than most heroes to inflict the same amount of damage, meaning Peacekeeper players are more or less forced to build full stamina regen and exhaust recovery to fully utilize her. This could limit build diversity, which would be a shame.
As far as her toolkit / moveset is concerned... bravo on this one devs!!! She is amazingly fun and interactive to play, feels like all her moves are useful, and even her feats offer many interesting combos and synergies.
The one thing I would reccomend for a nerf on her is the bleed buildup. After talking with my group about it, I can even admit that the amount of damage it does over time should be slightly less.
I played mostly as a knight. This is not a button masher. I was getting killed by bots in the duels, so will need a little finesse to progress... In 4v4 seemed like there were some pairings that were a little too weighted, so not sure if that's me...(general suckage)...or rebalancing needed. I did better against players v bots...
ive only played as the conqueror and it said heavy/heavy hitter. i can agree that he is really slow but the heavy hitter part doesnt seem to popout as much since it would take a good amount of hits to get the guy down to around half health whereas itd take the opposition alot less hits to achieve the same results. but that could be just me.
The peacekeepers stats aren't high enough she has low survivability low defense low health . Her capabilities and techniques may be somewhat great but is not as powerful as she should be. She doesn't have a shield so that means her offensive should be really high. In one verses one and two versus two she's going to be the first to die. Characters like orochi can stun you ,hit you with a combination, stun you again ,with Ease and because she has no defense she's going to die. Bigger characters can dispatch peacekeepers with an R2. basically what I am saying is the fact that she has a low defense and low health is OK as long as her attack gets boosted. She doesn't carry 2 swords for nothing right ? Also make her throw stagger enemies alittle more .
I feel like the Peacekeeper needs a bit more HP, Defence, or Stamina, or any decent mix of those.
She's quite fun to play but with the relatively low damage damage output per swing, being completely kneecapped by a block dodge or parry, and what feels like a really temperamental X button grab/break I feel like it's just a bit too easy to shut her down.
The Conqueror feels really beefy as it should, I think it's in a good place but possibly a bit too powerful. Heavy attacks do absolute truckloads of damage for relatively little risk. I feel like a bit more emphasis on using the shield defensively then following up on a block with a bit of damage, Block into X into Light Attack does this but what I'm trying to say is that personally I feel like that should be emphasised more than the pure offensive powerhouse you can easily play as. Not so much a balance problem in my eyes but a thematic one.
The Warden is super fun, no major comments or criticism except that it feels so much easier to counter/riposte with the Warden than the Peacepeaker, which feels just a little bit off to me.
I think the peacekeepers, orochi and nobushi are the most popular in this game, I meet them almost in every game and it's really annoying if you play some of heavy hero and they just run out from fight but it's not big deal the real problem is that i don't see other heros on the battlefield.
After seeing comments of the peacekeeper being too squishy, needing buffs and seeing the poll votes of her being too overpowered, I will form my bit of input as she's the character I play the most.
She feels like a gank character. She has incredible forced aggro capabilities in that if played right she can keep most opponents from fleeing and even if they get away, they are left in critical shape usually bleeding to death. The way I've played and have sene others play her is a hit and run tactic (Slash in, force bleed, parry or strat back out of range) making the biggest threats tanks (E.g.Conqueror) or long range (E.g. Nobushi).
I don't agree that she is too overpowered, but I would expect some rebalancing. Health nerfs to her seem reasonable, as I feel her survivability is too high. It's easy to juggle two or three enemies, run out of stamina and still escape. She need to be punished for staying in range for too long, or think twice about going too deep behind enemy lines after an encounter. Her primary focus should be securing kills, capping uncontested points and leading ganks (Baiting lone enemies to other teamates.)
I don't even know if there is something bad to say. It's a beta and I understand things will change in the coming weeks. The character balance feels very good considering it isn't the final product, but I do have to say that I think the Peacekeeper attacks faster than I think it should. It seems very difficult for most of the bigger characters to attack her before she can. It might just be my experience, but I think she needs to be slowed down. I haven't found any other issues than that. So far I think this might be the best new IP that I've played in a long time, and not just from you guys at Ubisoft. I mean IP's as a whole. This is genius. It's skill based PvP at it's finest. It's so unique and it's a breath of fresh air from the usual titles that we get year after year. I think you guys have this under control. I can't wait to see how the campaign is in the full game, and all the new characters and multiplayer maps. Fantastic work with this game.
