I think the gender lock is there strictly for the lore of those classes. Valkyrie obviously should be female only, Nobushi and peacekeeper as well are intended to be women. Warlords are leaders and women weren't really considered leaders by vikings. etc. I believe you get my point.
Except that the lore doesn't really make any sense either. Not even the Valkyre.

Hear me out here: But the lore for the Valkyre is that certain warriors in the Viking group have decided to "earn a place in Valhalla for the ones who didn't fall in battle" and when they do that, they dress up as Valkyre as a symbolic way to show what they're fighting for... So... Why does that exclude men from doing the same thing? yes, the mythical Valkyre they're emulating are usually shown as women, but we're not actually playing as a heaven-sent horselady here to take fallen souls off to the afterlife, we're playing as warriors who simply believe in that tradition and want to show it off in their dress-sense. There is literally no reason why men can't also do that. Would it mean having big burly dudes dressing in "feminin" style armour and stuff? Sure, but in a game where 90% of the characters are clad in bits of steel, leather and wood and you're mostly going to be paying attention to where their weapon is rather what gender they are, I really don't think that matters. Let them be dudes.

As for the Peacekeepers, again: Why does the lore of them forbid them being male? And for that matter, why does the Lawbringers lore forbid them being women? As far as I'm aware, the Peacekeepers are a sort of underground, secret police type deal, acting as the "black-ops" team for the Legion, going undercover and taking out key figures on the sly. Whilst the Lawbringers are the out-and-proud public security people, walking riot control forces who are deployed into unsettled places to bring the law, as their name states.

How, exactly, does being a public security figure vs a private black ops limit you on what gender you can be? Why is it that "only women can be stealthy" and "only men can be tough"? We all know that's b.s. Hell, the game itself knows that's b.s! The ostensibly stealthy and flighty Orochi and Beserker classes can be both male and female, whilst the huge, burly and boisterous Conquerors and Raiders can also be either gender. And have you seen the female Conquerors? They're huge! There's no reason why you couldn't take that player model, put it in the Lawbringer armour and send them out onto the field!

As for the Nobushi, the idea behind them is they're inspired by the "wives of Samurai" hence their dress and weaponry. But while that is their inspiration, that isn't actually what they are. Just like the Valkyre: Their influence may be primarily feminine, but this game has - on multiple occasions - allowed female characters to be in ostensibly "male" oriented roles from history. If the game says its okay for women to be knights and samurai leaders, then there's no reason for it to deny men from being in traditionally "feminine" roles.

But beyond all that, can somebody please answer me one question?

If they allow all classes to be all genders... Would that make your game experience worse!?

Basically, is there really any legitimate reason to restrict the genders? Because the "it's the character lore!" argument is weak and flawed at best.

This has been a hot topic every since they first announced the gender lock. Early in development they promised that every character could be male or female, and unfortunately they went back on that promise. I'm not mad about it though, because as best I can tell they simply ran out of time to budget in their schedule to add animations for male and female models of every class. It's a damn shame, because I know there are a lot of people out there who really appreciate the immersion of being the same sex as your game avatar (I'm one of those people) and it really sucks if you're a guy who wants to be a male Peacekeeper or girl who wants to play a female Warlord, etc. Hopefully they will add these options later, but it's not happening before release. Keep making noise though and they might add it in DLC.

I am so refreshed to see that the female character model in this game aren't these sleek and slim women you see in other fantasy games. They are bad ***, muscle bound, powerful warrior women.

Though I love the Lawbringer armour and weapon combination there has been no class trailer yet with a moment more kick *** than when the Valkyrie head butts her opponent into the dirty with a ramshead full faced helm.
