My largest gripe towards the game so far

I'm a person that loves customization and personalization, and For Honor does this fairly well. It certainly doesn't give you a huge character creator but it lets you personalize each character with various colors and patterns while also giving you different armor pieces that change your stats slightly. What concerned me the most however was the noticeable lack of customization with the three new characters in the alpha, peacekeeper, warlord, and nobuchi. Youre unable to alter the gender of these characters, unlike the other six characters available in the alpha. Whether this lack of a feature is due to them simply not having a finished male, or in the warlords case female, model ready for the beta or because of (insert assassins creed unity joke here) I don't know. As someone who prefers the lighter and quicker characters, I definitely have taken a liking to the peacekeeper and nobuchi, but being a dude I definitely would prefer to play as a male character. on any other game I couldn't care less, but in a game where the other characters have features that these three simply have the option locked off with no explanation its a bit concerning. certainly not a game breaking thing but for me it will probably make or break whether I purchase the game. like I said, I love customization.

6 classes in the final release will be gender locked. Valkyrie, Warlord, Shugoki, Peacekeeper, Lawbringer, Nobuchi.
Game is just designed that way. 2 classes per faction that are male/female. 1 class male and then 1 class female.

I... really don't see much point to this argument. For the Peacekeeper and Nobushi, you literally can't see any defining features besides the slight bulge of their breasts, and even that is hardly "flaunting". If you want to say they're male, just say they're male and roll with it. I for one really don't care too much what gender the character is if they are well developed and fun to play.

Except what about male-locked classes, like the warlord? Should people who want to roll with that as a female not be able to (due to the gigantic beard and muscular structure?

There's also the aspect of voice-acting. Like come on, it's more than just the models -_-

Seeing too sides to this folks who don't care much for customization, and folks who don't care at all. Playing many MMOs growing up as well as a few old and newer shooters that allow character customization maybe its better to be able to give people more options for customizing their character. If folks don't care for a more in depth customization experience then they won't go to great lengths to customize and not lose much value in the game. Folks who do however will lose a lot of value in a game if they can't make their character more of what they wan.t

Besides is your experience with the game really going to be worse if you see you can have a female Warlord or a male Nobushi?

I wouldn't say it would be a bad experience just because of this but it sure would be better if I could play whatever gender I'd like, I main the Conqueror and when i had to do the "play 5 games as Assassin" order it bothered me a little I couldn't be a dude.

If Raiders can be female why wouldn't Warlords? we have lot's of giantesses in this game, Warden female is taller than the male, Raider is almost as large as male and larger than all the other males in the game, Kensei only loses the mask's beard, otherwise it's indistinguishable.

The only "small" dude is the Orochi and I'd like to go male Peacekeeper and go all Ezio on people's asses or do a Bruce Lee and play a male Orochi.

My problem with it isn't the fact that they are female. I'm even a little annoyed with the lack of a female option for the warlord. Who wouldn't want a stronk shield maiden leading the charge into combat. Furthermore, its a bit hard to simply "pretend" a character is a different gender than what they are. The immersion there would be thrown completely off once your supposed male character makes a high pitched feminine battle cry, or your female warlord turns toward the camera and shows of "her" big bushy beard. I agree that these characters are still fun to play. Nobushi is probably what I would consider my main. Its just annoying to see that option clearly there, but simply darkened and locked of like a big middle finger to us that love to spend hours customizing our characters. Its a let down, and frankly I feel its a bit lazy.

I see why they did it

I LOVE customization!!! But I totally see why some characters are gender locked. I see it as "historical accuracy". Such as the Valkyrie being women. Granted they should really be called shield maidens, but whatever). You can't have a male shield MAIDEN. And a Warlord, there weren't really women "warlords" (I see those as jarls). So with that begin said. it makes sense that some classes would be gender locked. Taking that stance, it would make sense to do something like that with each faction and I appreciate the devs for staying somewhat true to history.

I mean if that's the excuse then pretty much every class but the nobushi should be male locked in the samurai faction. Feudal Japan was very very strict with genders, and only men were allowed to be a samurai. Some women did have combat training and have fought alongside samurai, which is why I think the nobushi would remain female, but females were not allowed to hold the title of samurai. That locks away both the kensei and possibly the orochi to only male, and since the shugoki is already male locked we would have only one female samurai on the battlefield. I could say the same could be said for all factions since the times then were very male dominant, but alas I am but a filthy weeb. I don't know enough about medieval knights or Viking warriors to say there weren't females on both sides.

It's not lazy obviously. It's extremely easy to just activate the 'male' button and make a similar male model of the class. I think the gender lock is there strictly for the lore of those classes. Valkyrie obviously should be female only, Nobushi and peacekeeper as well are intended to be women. Warlords are leaders and women weren't really considered leaders by vikings. etc. I believe you get my point.
