I really don't get the concept behind assassins in this game. They're effectively a stronger version of the other classes, with no downside whatsoever. They are faster than the rest of the classes. Their attacks are way faster than the rest of the classes, making them very hard to dodge. They also deal way more damage than any other class if they successfully land something, which is really not hard. "But their individual attacks do less dmg than other classes!" Who the **** cares, if they hit you with the start of the chain, the rest will be completely uncounterable. "But they have to constantly switch their stances!" Eeeerm.. so what? Noone attacks where their enemy is currently guarding, so everyone has to constantly switch stances anyways... "But they have less hp than other classes! " Yeah, except.. not. They have like, 1/20th of their hp missing compared to other classes, which is easily counterbalanced by doing half an opponent's HP with a combo. They also happen to have guard breaks which hit you the second their animation starts, making you get thrown off and into things with no counterplay possible except "try to spam heavy attacks maybe they're ******ed". "Oh but they still have less defense!" I dunno, their defense seems pretty godly OP to me, seeing as they can just hit you faster and counter any attack no matter what. Oh, you blocked the start of my chain and tried to retaliate with a light attack? Too bad lmao i still hit faster than you. And I haven't even talked about how they can just zip the **** around and dodge everything if they so desire way faster than any other class. "But they're harder to play!" That in itself shouldn't make them inherently stronger, and while we're at it, seeing that they have the easiest time staying alive, it basically makes them the easiest. They don't require any special skills to land anything. And don't even get me started on the ****ing Nobushi.. Same flaws as the other assassins except she does it from further away and spams the same annoyingass soundfile while doing so.
By the way, I mainly play a conqueror. "Hurr durr but conquerors are good against assassins!"
Yeah, sure. I can hold off against an assassin for all eternity. If I only go defensive, I sure as hell can't die. Too bad if I try to retaliate I get rekt instantly, or if I go fully defensive they'll just hit me with their undodgeable lightning quick guard break and throw me into a wall of spikes.
Either way, assassins are ********. Okay, they take off half your hp with one combo, fine, if they land it, let them have it, but at least make their attacks less than ******* lightning speed so it's not so easy to land their onepunch.
I personally feel that everybody with the exception of the Nobushi are at a good place of balance right now.
If only it were that easy. I don't know if it's just the conqueror, but the heavy attacks do less dmg than the assassins' light attack combos. Way less, infact, unless I do a charged attack which is impossible to use in a real scenario since they'll just guard break me. I've no damn clue why the conqueror is listed as a "hard hitter".Originally Posted by TyrrelDuckard Go to original post
So I've only played with the Warden and Assassin (Peacekeeper). I didn't want to sink too much time in other things so that I could see what character & skill progression looked like. Assassins are super quick against the other classes, but it doesn't take much for me to go down. So while they gain speed, you really can't engage in a "fair" duel with a character without being totally crushed. Best strategy for this class is to literally hit, roll, and run. If I try to stand my ground, and focus all my energy on blocking attacks, I won't win. The only times I've won against another player is by repeating the process of hitting a player, rolling away, and coming back.Originally Posted by IroncIad Go to original post
The Warden is a little more advantageous in that I can stand my ground, and still manage to duck and run if I absolutely need to. I prefer Warden to Assassin, but they're both alright in my eyes. Honestly, just pick a character that suits your game style best and roll with it. The fact is, you're not going to be good against everyone and that's sort of the point. If you think Assassins are over powered, then maybe switch to that class so that you can see where their weaknesses are. That way you have a better idea of what to go for when you play against them. I really don't think they're overpowered at all, and I wouldn't invest in the character very much once the game comes out mid-Feb. Just can't get the job done.
Bruhhh as a conqueror against any assassin with your ridiculous defense all you have to do is block and light attack. As a berserker the Conqueror and Warlord are scary. First of all berserkers have no unblockables. Uninterruptible yes but not unblockable. And even the Uninterruptible requires 4 consecutive attacks before it procs and Ive not once played a conqueror whos guard doesn't completely blow back my feeble attempts at comboing thru his guard. Block and light attack. Rinse and repeat. Guard break to keep your opponent on his toes and wary of the cliffs and back to your rinsing and repeat. But trying to heavy attack your way thru an assassin youre asking to die.
You can't block and light attack, it's physically impossible. The conqueror's light attack is too slow to land after a block. Best case scenario is the enemy instantly blocks it, worst case is it's a peacekeeper that instantly 100-0s you.Originally Posted by Monarcke Go to original post
I've no problems with the warden. But the peacekeeper, seriously? Her attack direction only shows up when she has literally already dealt the dmg. She teleports in your face with her ******ed speed, chunks off 30% of your hp (or stunlocks you and takes off 90%) and then teleports away, repeat 2-3 times, enemy dies, no counterplay allowed, gege.Originally Posted by SilasLandon Go to original post
Peacekeepers are definitely fast and can be rough to try and defend against. A thing to remember is that her dash charge always hits top. If you parry that hit, they are screwed. If they are all up in your grill, life is kinda tough.
Playing as a conq against assassins is all about parrying and then doing a light attack, or, if you're good, you use your heavy superior block during windup. Basically right before you would normally parry you heavy attack in the direction they are coming from, and you block/slam them with a heavy. You can even lead into another heavy which will hit simultaneously with their hit if they try to interrupt you (which is good, if you double heavy an assassin they have basically lost the game).
I agree with most of what you say man. They have slightly and I mean slightly less health than the other classes but have INSANELY faster movement as well as attacks and way more damage per attack. Its like they added the assassins in after they balanced all the other classes for the game. I hate the fact that they can get free hits on you even if you do nothing wrong. Berzerker has an unblockable throw, peackeeper has an instant stab/posion you cant get out of, and orochi hits you when you attack them??!! So your only options as a heavy or vanguard are to just....not attack them? How is that balanced? It also seems as though they are the most popular class as well. I played 3 games in a row where full 6/8 of the characters were orochi or peacekeeper. I have not had a single match with fewer than 4 in a game. Their speed and health need to be looked at. Im fine with them being faster and dealing damage like a rogue or some such would do but the have just about the same staying power as the other classes making it imbalanced. Most just hit you and run away after you block some of their attacks. Then low and behold minutes later when you are locked in battle with someone else BAM unblockable uncounterable multi hit combo from the back by the same assassin. All in all, reduce speed, reduce health for ALL assassins.Originally Posted by IroncIad Go to original post
