First I want to say the balancing is much better and nothing really seems obviously unbalanced with the characters, sure some minor tweaking could happen but the real concern for me is the combat. The deflect for the assassins was to easy to pull off but now its incredibly difficult to do and i've spent fights trying to do nothing but deflect hits and most time he just dashes and doesn't block, if it register i gave it a direction to block at all. Also the damage for ranged attacks needs to be brought down a bit, i feel like its to much of and impact for the combat we're supposed to be getting.
Dodge rolling is useless now, you can't roll out of combat and you don't dodge because now the game auto carries the attack how ever far and whatever direction is needed to hit you after your roll. Range seems to have increased for almost every class and i cant even begin to understand why its automated so much now. This has made ganking so easy and there is definitely an increase of it since the alpha. I would also advocate instant revenge when its 3v1 or implement higher damage to friendlies. I don't even know where to begin with guard break, it is spammed less in the beta than it was in the alpha but that is because it rarely works. The counter is harder to pull off but i feel that is mainly a connection issue rather than game design.
I really don't know how to explain the rest. I put in alot of time in the alpha and will do so in the beta and these are the things that really jump out at me the most. I still believe this is a good game but i feel like the combat has taken a couple steps back since the alpha. I don't know if they are trying to simplify the combat or what but id really like to take the character balance now and add it to the alpha combat. Also increase the cost of salvage packs I don't know if this was done just for the beta but it seems way to easy to gear up now.
Also the spam from light attacks is just as bad as it was in alpha with no repercussions for doing so.
I agree on that also.
I can remember in the alpha when you hit some one with a light attack (or any attack for that matter) while the opponent was trying to do a slow heavy attack, you would cancel his attack by this.
Now he is able to continue his attack without any interuption.
Same with the guard break, if you did that you would succeed.
Now when hes trying the heavy attack while you want to guard break himat the same time, it doesnt connect anymore.
I have had this to many times to think its connection related.
What i do think is connection related (i really hope so) is the fact when im being attacked and i block it but still get full damage.
So i hope its a connection issue rather than the block dont register.
As for the deflect, it is indeed pretty much impossible topull that off.
Untill now i havent been able to get even 1 deflect.
I really hope they will turn back the beta combat system to the alpha system.
As for the matchmaking.
I remeber in the alpha when players left at the and of the match they were replaced by AI bots until new players arived.
In the beta when players leave at the end of a match, you will be put back at the main menu instead of placing AI bots on the empty slots.
I am playing with group of about 8 players from all the previous alphas and we all are wondering the same thing OP. Something is off on all the classes. It feels as if the game has been slowed down and the pacing isn't what it was before. Maybe they slowed it down to try and control the combat speed at higher tiers. We're not sure but its definitely not what it was last alpha build across multiple classes.
You're timing your deflect incorrectly. You can still dodge roll out of combat, and it still has i-frames and cancels any incoming guard breaks that hit you. Not sure why you think anything's changed. Range hasn't increased, and tracking on dodges is the same as it ever was. Guard break works every time in the situations it's meant to work in, and counter guard breaks are still easy.
@Dennis
Hitting someone with a light attack still interrupts their heavy (or even light) if you hit first. Nothing has changed. Maybe you're trying to trade with a character who has armour during their heavy (like the warlord).
Guard breaks will (and this hasn't changed from September) work on someone during the initial wind-up of their heavy attack, anything after the first few frames and it should and does whiff.
You're missing your blocks. Record your gameplay and check again.
Almost nothing has changed mechanically since September.
