From the few campaign lets plays i've seen, the campaign doesn't have any character selection, you just play as the various characters in turn. In this case, they have the gender they're depicted with as standard on the website i believe.

A better question is: Why would it matter? I mean do you REALLY wanna see a female Shugoki? Cuz there are sites for people who are into that sorta thing.

Any character that isn't gender locked in the multiplayer can be swapped. The gender locked ones are named characters, the toggleable ones are just referred to by their class (The Warden, The Raider, etc.)

As you can see, there is a male and a female loadout at the beginning. I dont know about the side characters you will play, but the main chars warden/raider/orochi can be customized

And dudes with troubling insecurities regarding their own masculinity.

Also, I'm a feminist and in no way bothered by this.
