    Today in the DZ

Its been a very long time since I've been in there and after the continuous yapping of small and annoying dogs on this forum about how it's not as bad as we make it out to be and you can farm if your aware of your surroundings, I thought "well lets give it a go and see".

With my main toon who has a DZ level of 78 I went into DZ1, loaded in and ran off up the street. I had been in the DZ for less then 4 mins and turned a corner and there were a 4 man team. Ganked. 4 mins.

Later after I had calmed down a bit I decided I'd give it one more try. Went in, cleared two mobs, opened some chests and actually extracted 9 items, came across another player who had been downed by NPC's and revived him, he was very grateful, maybe this isn't so bad. Collected a few more items and decided to extract again, called it in and cleared the site. It was all too good to be true really because lurking was a guy who waited for the exact moment I was putting something on the rope (therefor taking advantage of the animation) Ganked.

4 vs 1? Cheesy animation exploitation? Yeah you PVP types are highly skilled ain't ya?

Massive think that 1.6 changes will make the DZ a more PVE friendly place, well Massive, Newsflash, it really won't.

Just go in with the mindset that you are going to PvP, and you will have a better time. If some little scrub is loitering around your extraction they are generally up to no good, bait them into shooting first by pretend to use the rope, or at least to see how they react when you get close to it.

Anyway, I don't really go into the DZ for loot, it's all crap anyway. On the off chance I do stumble across something that is good, then I will play it safe, i.e. never extract when others are nearby.

Ah but didn't you know the next DLC will have PVE elements for all the PVE players in this nice new game mode where the PVP players will all go fight each other and leave the poor PVE player to just do his/her thing.......

Not really it's quite obvious that the entire last stand game mode is just an excuse for a PVP game mode to try and move PVP players out of the DZ so they gank PVE players there instead. However the DZ will remain the gankers playground and nothing will change in any part of the DZ like Massive seem to think it will.

in other words their attempt to not have PVE and PVP players mixing in the DZ will fail miserably and they will be screamed at continually for a PvE DZ which they are trying like mad to avoid as this will be the same as admitting that the whole DZ concept of rogues etc has failed miserably.

and you can all sit and say "PvP in the dark zone is optional" but it's really not because a PvE player gets no option when a 4 man PVP team ganks him/her it's not optional in the DZ or in Last stand it's allways going to happen wether you want it or not making the whole DLC pretty pointless.

And before you get all "Just don't go into the DZ" the DZ has all the landmark functionality that you do not see in the LZ and it's the only place you can get the environmental feeling that has been designed there which some people want to see and then don't go near because of the gank squads.

When it comes to DZ there's a few things to keep in mind.

Listen to how people say things when they talk on mic. If they sound fishy they're probably fishy. If someone asks you if you're alone I'd slowly back away from them (without aiming but making it clear without a word nontheless).

When it comes to meeting others if they kill me I annoy them (since 1 can't take on 4). Hell, I'll keep coming back and dying over and over if it makes them a target for manhunters if I have too.

Evac. This is a tricky one. What I do is get around and meet people first. Maybe have one item on me to test them on site. Just to see if they'll kill me after/while at the chopper. If they don't they they're cool and I can be around them in a none hostile manner (I tend to hang around and help them a bit showing NO hostile behavior). The moment I'm a target I get out of dodge and avoid.

The end result? I end up meeting others that will be around and can be a threat to rouges. Random people that I just lurk around who won't kill me. Being neither friend nor foe (but still of use). However, I have to dig through the rouges to find these people. Makes things easier though. Separate, get loot, follow them to evac after seeing them again and not get killed (due to being tested and seen as none hostile by them). Job done.

Honestly, not everyone in DZ is a rouge that ganks. The 4 man rouge squads just give DZ a bad image. They're more louder. The "good guys" tend to be in the shadows. If not hunting them down. Like Batman.

Also, gestures. use them. The make all the difference. Surrender is obvious. Jumping jack can be a "mood lightener". Etc. When there's a tense situation I look at what they do, not just listen to what they say. Plus I can't stand mic myself. Spoken words can be missed with the ears (more so under panic/stress plus what if it's turned off for them or if they don't understand English?). Text (unless not knowing English) and gestures is crystal clear. Just be sure to gesture before typing.
