I don't think they ever aimed for a cover based shooter. That is impossible with the gear based PvP meta. Players and NPCs hiding slows the game down. The only way a cover based game works in PvP is if the damage is 'realistic', in that, hits always requires repair and can be quickly fatal. If everyone's gear score is different, some players will run and gun and generally those players will be 'the best' . Heck, even NPCs often ingore that they are being shot at.Originally Posted by teado25 Go to original post
Nope, TD was /is only a cover based shooter if players chose to play it that way in PvE (which I did).
Listening to the remaining segment of the community who is most enthusiastic about the game is normal and makes sense. They stayed and they stayed based on what the game is - not based on what the game could be changed into. The Dev team can't talk to the players that left and re invent the game based on what might bring people back. What the Devs envisioned is what we got. What the game is now is a reflection of their core game concept and design.
Ultimately player input will not do much to change the content unless the game lasts for another year or two (see lasting MMORPGs). Sure, players can influence change to rewards and character developement, but DLC content was pre-planned and locked into the tunnel vision from the launch version of the game. That is proven by the way resistence to the DZ has been handled - with changes to the LZ. "We won't change what we want, but we'll try to give you something similar."
The Devs are very enthusiastic about working with the remaining fanbase, they created a community council, actively hold feedback live streams and regularly let players know what is in the works.
The issue for some who are still playing, is the core design wasn't quite what they wanted....
I wanted a character / story driven RPG and that is a whole other kettle of fish.
Sorry, but the truth is that game companies don't get to stick with their "vision". You make the game that your players want, not what you want. If what the game is now is what the players want, then they should roll with it.Originally Posted by teado25 Go to original post
Having said that, maybe they went a bit too far in one direction. That's on them for just slapping bandaids on the problems and not putting in the effort to completely redesign some elements of the game. The worst of it being the constant buffs and nerfs in an attempt to balance the PVP, and it's effects on the PVE game.
