    Named Weapons Are Not Good

It would be cool if they were.

I recently acquired a Tommy Gun and oh boy. It sucks. Pretty badly. Can't hit a damn thing with it. And why would I? I can spray down a target with an lvoa from distance. With this thing the only cool perk is hip fire damage and it's so inaccurate that you're halfway through the mag and haven't hit anything.

I'm assuming the same goes for other named weapons because no one uses them.

Unfortunately it was decided that a couple of them were actually useful and the nerf hammer smacked them.

    Midas and caduceus anyone?

Yes Midas and Cadeceus got nerfed.

Give us the rundown on how it was not justified and was completely fine in PvE so we could all feel ashamed of what we've done...

Tommy gun pairs well with the Ballistic Shield and it's relevant gear set.

Only good named weapons are the Pahkan and the Liberator, both real hard to get....

The Caduceus got nerfed into oblivion. It was a fun not OP weapon in some sets. Now it's just a waste of inventory space

Of course its fine, bots dont have feelings, and dont come to forums to talk about how they got wrecked by a player that had his skills off cooldown 100% of the time.

And we'll just conveniently ignore the part where a single item invalidates an entire weapon class, an entire stat and several talents?

Never mind the broken mess that Midas was...

That sir, is the whole point in named gear, its supposed to be overpowered, rare and desireable.

Hence the clamour and ferocious farming thats been going on for weeks for the x marks the spot chest piece (that invalidates every other chest option in the game)

Now if you want to talk about problems, lets talk about early days reckless....

Not rare, not named, but broken.... in a way that makes the mind boggle.

There is a difference between gamechanging and gamebreaking. There is no justifiable reason "named" gear should completely destroy any fundamental part of the game just for its namesake, for at least the reason that it makes developing the variety of stats and mechanics that get fked as a casualty, redundant.

Named weapons have potential to be an avenue for specific talents. By providing a reliable way of obtaining them players can acquire the talent they want just as reliably. And as a show of good faith, Massive can reduce the RNG with Named gear by biasing the stat rolls closer to the maximum ceiling value of the stat range. That way players can be confident that they are getting the best of both worlds.

But to claim that a named item MUST be OP to be desirable is hasty conclusion made out of nothing but some mainstream ideas slapped around.

Sorry, but massive have yet to display a show of good faith anywhere as far as I have seen.

The caduceus was the perfect weapon for a skill power player, yet once again, they decided to throw an egg on the show and change it.

Named weapons are worse than there unamed counterparts (with the possible exeption of the pakhan)

Drop a named weapon, mark it as junk and move along.

Cadaceus was in no way shape or form broken. It was the single named item I ever enjoyed using in PvE because I could dedicate myself to using skills to do damage for me, and tried to build the weapon to maximize the Crits heal me for a percentage.

But of course PvP crybabies whined about it. And so it got nerfed. and not just nerfed, but ****ing castrated past Eunuch status. They didn't even bother trying to put a special Cad only skill on it to replace the coolheaded talent, but instead just slapped the remanded one where now you gotta kill the target. Piss poor laziness.

Doesn't really matter though. I have a sidearm that has coolheaded now, and if you thought the AR was bad, wait until you see how much damage a M1911 with Brutal and Coolheaded plus pistol dmg/HS dmg, and the right set does. Considering I can never run out of ammo either.
