A little disclaimer about how I play TD. From launch til November (1.5 Launch on Xbox) I was a PVE player. Yes, I'd venture into the DZ to farm gear, and have extracted thousands of items (divisiontracker says I'm in the top 6% or something like that, was 4% at some stage too). Now 1.5 comes out with zero endgame PVE content and of course I decided to give PVP a go, and I've had a blast. In the run-up to Christmas I PVPd a lot and in fact to I started to log in only to PVP.
However, I do enjoy my PVE quite a bit and the game, the setting, and the mechanics, deserve much more than what's on offer.
So I've been, since November as a matter of fact, fielding questions both on Twitch streams and on these forums to see if I could get any official response regarding possible PVE content down the road. You know, the last PVE content addition was Dragon's Nest in 1.3. Yeah, Survival is a game mode, not something you do with your finely tunned character, so not really endgame.
Now, today, I got the best response so far I've received, since every single question before was deftly ignored by Hamish, Yannick et al. And the answer was "If there's any info on that you'll learn about it later". Yes, I know, that's not really a reply, but whenever I ask anything ELSE, just about anything else, I get a reply (Kudos to Hamish and Yannick for being that efficient in that regard BTW).
So yeah, I'm looking forward to getting a slew of additions to the DZ, and frankly whenever these come out I'll be sure to head over to the DZ and engage in some nice PVP, but as far as PVE content goes, endgame content not a game mode I reiterate, I'm concerned we're not getting a thing until Year 2 content, whenever that's announced.
I have no data concerning PvE / PvP player numbers, but it seems to me that PvE and coop PvE is a big selling point for TD. So if it is true that Last Stand/1.6 is PvP content only, then a lot of players are going to be upset, particularly the PvE/coop players those who bought the Season Pass. With Wildlands due out March 2017 featuring a massive coop campaign there might not be enough players left in TD to warrant any year two content.
Which is bad news for ALL the TD players, both PvP (Yay! we get exclusive PvP content in 1.6!) and PvE (WTF! Where's the PvE content?).
I hope TD isn't going to be added to the "Devs killed their own game" list.
Hard to say if I'm looking forward to Last Stand or not. We don't know much about what it will contain. I know that the 1.6 update will contain PvP/DZ balances/fixes but that's not the same thing as the Last Stand content. Hopefully we get some news soon on what this last DLC will actually be about.
PVP content is usually cheaper to develop and, if done right, has replayability far beyond that of any PVE content ever. Having said that, PVP endgame content has seen no addition since 1.2 (I think) when supply drops were added and that's a long while IMO. OTOH, PVE has seen nothing since 1.3 either.Originally Posted by HuntleyGordon Go to original post
And it'd be so EASY to add some endgame content without actually doing a lot of extra work on Massive's side. WoW proved this ages ago, with Ulduar and ever since a lot of games have built upon this. Basically you take an encounter, (Any existing mission or incursion would do!) and have dynamic targets in that encounter affect the difficulty and the rewards of the encounter. Hell, they could take what's already out (UG) and add MORE options to it (Hunters, cleaners, rikkers, drones ...) or even add final rooms to the UG when meeting a certain criteria (no deaths in the whole run, a certain kill/minute rate, a target time ...) to get to this PVE endgame. To top it off, and this is controversial I know, they could "resurrect" the UG vendor by having him sell weapon BPs a smidge higher in GS (say 270 or whatever) which could be purchased with tokens obtained when hitting this harder targets.
But, IMO, we're not getting any PVE content come Last Stand. Another game mode? Perhaps. Not sure it'll be endgame content though, though I hope it is.
At this stage this game needs content, not balances I'd say. So I really hope new content does indeed come at some stage.Originally Posted by googlebright Go to original post
As I said, however, I believe we might not get much before Y2.
I agree that this game needs more content. But I'm not convinced this game will have a Year Two yet. That remains to be seen.Originally Posted by LepantoESP Go to original post
