Ok...soooo...I kind of owe massive an apology, I crapped all over this mini game when it first came out, but the more I play it, the more I like it, and wish there was more to it....We are talking about Survival of course.
I hated survival when I first tried it, really hated it. Seemed nothing more than a mini game. I guess to be fair, it still feels that way, but I will give it credit, even if it is a mini game, it is a fun one.
Did anyone else think that the Division, the full game, was going to be more like Survival and less like what it actually is?
I really like Survival, but probably not for the same reason as most. I like PvP, and Survival PvP has some of the best balance out there at the moment. The fights are legitimately fun, not a lot of skill power, no gear sets, just gun fighting goodness for the most part.
The only real advantage is if you have better guns, gear...but even then, you still feel like you can put someone down with a pistol.
The not so new trend that has been going on for a little while now is people flocking to level 14 DZ, where there are no gear sets, and pretty low end skill usage. Honestly, it is the closest thing to normalized PvP the division offers at this point.
PvP feels great in these instances.
But......And this is for the PvErs out there....
With that said, I love the looter theme to this game as well, and I like build diversity, and like PvE as well...im not sure how you marry those two things effectively though, but I really hope they figure it out.
I thought The Division would be more like Survival on a much bigger scale, which for me, has made the game fun and interesting again for the time being.
Anyone else think that would be the case initially? Are you happy with the way it turned out?
This is not a complaining thread about current state.
I love the division as it is, I play more than i should, so this is not me complaining, not a hate thread. I just wonder what could have been...had they gone all in on Survival as the core game.
It would have been a lot better. Really, getting deep into the light zone, like the upper right areas, should be practically bragging rights that not just anyone could do alone with ease. Instead of it being just a large playground, it'd be nice if the area outside was genuinely it's own content-gate and getting farther into the light zone was its own challenge - challenge enough that only the most dedicated explorers would even get out that far. All sorts of lore and story clues\hints could have been hidden in such a world. Right now, the entire LZ is just this open playground of not much going on. It's just "harder" in certain areas, which becomes a non-issue once you're hitting 30.
I would have preferred the LZ to be its own world to explore and find clues\hints of the story. Over the course of a few months, you slowly expand further and further away from your base of operations, all while having to deal with factions reclaiming territory. Making your way and taking out the LMB leadership should have been a significant undertaking that not many would accomplish. Instead, we just have the whole ordeal thrown together in some mission you farm all day while watching youtube\netflix on your other monitor.
I'd hate to make this comparison, but a lot of people have played it, so I will. I remember when playing Wrath of the Lich King, the whole thought of his castle looming over there was kind of creepy. This looming ever-growing threat over there. It was a big deal to step foot in that place, and the news that some people actually managed to take down the Lich King was big news. Eventually more and more people were able to tackle him, but to this day, the majority of the population still never took him down. Now, I'm NOT saying to turn the Division into WoW, definitely not, but my point is, I'd like to see some genuine content challenges that is not designed for every person to complete. Something for people to work towards instead of being handed.
Not at 60 dollars. IMO opinion the survival mechanic ( getting hungry, thirsty, etc every 2 seconds) is a band aid for a lack of content.
In this day in age I only pay full price on games that go above and beyond the typical gameplay experience. The bar needs to be raised before I come out the pockets.
Hardly an issue if you are allowed to build up a substantial replacement collection. EVE players lose stuff every minute and no one bats an eye. Keeps the game going because stuff need to be periodically replaced but there is little downtime to it if it's done right...Originally Posted by Force58 Go to original post
Not a fan of PvP, but I do like Survival. I like the hunger and thirst, but the sickness and meds wearing off as quick as they do. The AI spawning on after I pulse or in the middle of combat bites, but I guess that is a learning curve. I also like games that are like this for the team aspect that can be played with friends. Most of my friends have quit this game and have no intention of coming back. Other players seem in such a hurry to farm and loot that they don't seem to enjoy the game. It's run here shoot this guy, run to the next. I joined a random group for Lexington over the weekend, I was still grabbing loot from the final battle when it reset to do again.
Survival will become old once I can extract every time. For now I usually burn up time learning the map and locations of all the best loot. I do mean the whole map.
