Unfortunately your PS4 will become an expensive paper weight with out plus. As far as I know, you need PSPlus for the PS4 to do anything. Something about online verification, the days of not needing to pay extra just to play a game you already bought, died with the PS3.

All of it. No game, or movie will play on it because Sony took a page from Microsoft. Now if you don't buy the Plus you don't play anything. The days of not need a subscription to play on a console are over.

He can watch Netflix, YouTube, party chat and message without plus. Just can't play online

The only thing that you can't do is go into the Dark Zone (DZ).

Because it has the PvP aspect where you fight other players you need to have PS Plus so you can play online, just as you would in a CoD multiplayer mode, or any online situation against other human players.

Everything else in the game is identical.

Ummm.....no. There are plenty of games to play on the PS4 that dont require online service.

I would like to know what they are? Every time I start a game it has an online verification, thanks to the old days of softwRe piracy. Or purchase a new game, you need to download that day one patch. Yes games may run for a time, but give it time they won't.

Here is a question for you. If PSPlus wasn't mandatory for the PS4, why did they raise the price?

You shouldn't need PSPlus for access to the PSN, online verification, nor for any game patches, system updates, or online services like Netflix.

PSPlus is for online multiplayer only, although most free-to-play (Warframe, World of Tanks, etc), and subscription-based games (DCUO, Neverwinter, Star Trek Online, etc) do not require it.

Most games will allow you to play the single player "offline" modes without it. For example, if you have Battlefield 4, you can play the campaign mode, but not the multiplayer. Rainbow Six Siege allows you to play the single player Situations without PS Plus, but not the Terrorist Hunts or Multiplayer.

I'm not 100% sure about the Division, though, since even the level 1-30 campaign has an "online" component (not only for playing coop and the DZ, but to be able to see other players in the safe houses).

Basically, even the campaign mode of the Division is technically still online multiplayer, so you're probably out of luck.
