Seriously, does anyone in this game use these for any legitimate reason? The same for "proximity" game chat?
I'm not saying they cannot have a legitimate use, the surrender emote can be used to signal non-hostility (although almost no-one trusts anyone when they do it anymore) and proximity game chat can occasionally be used to alert others that you didn't intend to go rogue (again, usually a waste of time).
On the whole however, it seems that the emotes and proximity game chat are good for nothing except talking trash, being deliberately disrespectful and taunting other players. If Massive is serious about cleaning up PvP in the game, I think getting rid of both would be a good start.
Anyone have a different opinion? It just seems a bit peverse that the applause emote now signifies "you're trash" and the help emote means "bring it on".
Plus removing emotes would free up the D-Pad button for a more useful function.
The emotes are good, In one of the safe houses there is a fire behind glass, If I do the "help" emote it looks like I am warming my hands (kind of). I always salute the safe house just before I leave.
The clapping is also good if someone looks ridiculous a clap always gives me a laugh. The emotes can be used as fun in silly situations. Not everything in a game has to have a serious use. I think as time has gone on and technology has advanced people have forgotten that games are to be played for fun the idea is to get you away from the real world for a bit and relieve some stress. If I go into a game with the mindset that I am going to have fun no matter what it makes the game much more enjoyable and nothing can ruin the experience.
Relax a bit.
They're just trying to emulate Destiny at every turn, the emotes are just one example...Originally Posted by Winslow-the-Dog Go to original post

The emotes are very important. Using the surrender gesture keeps you alive in DZ. Using wave when you're at an evac lets others know you might not be a threat. Using jumping jacks is crazy fun when you're next to a fire barrel in survival and with a min left on the timer. Jumping jack to death! WHEE! Or just jumping next at that mission where cleaners try to disarm something. Went right past me for a whole minute. Help gesture is there for obvious reasons (lend a hand over here basically). Salute means "Let's get things done" and "Howdy".
I use them all the time. I don't use a mic and I rarely type unless it's with people I know well. People understand my gestures, some of them use gestures, it makes things fun and people use them. What's more it's how others understand what I'm like. I see someone in DZ pinned down by a mob, I help clear out the mob, I salute and trot off without getting shot and seen as a threat.
I bump into three people. I surrender. They invite me into the group. Later on two others not in the group show up. They didn't use gesture and aimed at me. As a result we killed them. Because they didn't use gestures. Maybe I was a touch hasty and panicked a little but they didn't use gestures or type so it's on their heads.
Amd mic excuse doesn't fly with me either. I need to keep the noise down at night and will miss spoken words. Use gestures or get shot at in DZ. It's that simple. I'll get shot at if I don't use them. Chances are I will shoot you if you don't try to communicate with more then just words.
Btw, I tend to not get shot at more often then I do.
Failed a manhunt yesterday. Tossed a grenade as they fled (not aiming to hit them of course). Like a toss a rock in anger at losing thing. But I still said it was a good chase with the other hunters and clapped. It wasn't to mock them, it was because it was a good chase. And the rouges actually said "Haha, you lose. Losers, losers." Should we get rid of mics just because of that? I think not.
It's how YOU use emotes. And mics. And other things. Don't blame something for existing because you or others might abuse it.
