In my humble opinion this doesn't make much sense.
Most people who suggest new factions approach the creative design of the game from the wrong angle. They want to include a specific cultural group that existed at some point in history to be included because they identify with or are a "fan" of them. What they forget is that there are no historical figures in for Honor, only variations of iconic figures from pop culture. There are a thousand comic books about samurai for example, making "the samurai" a figure of public myth rather than a historical one. A possible figure among thousands to demonstrate the contrast would be the west-germanic tribe called Alamanni, a regional power in the old provinces around the rine of the collapsed western roman emire in the earliest medieval ages mostly since around 500 A.C. It is subject to historical discourse rather than to a pop-cultural one and would feel very off in a setting fighting against an streroidized comic-book Viking or an armored Sumo-Ringer. The same thing applies to any slavic warrior.
Can you follow ?
Also "The slavs" is a much too large and complex group to reduce it to a single stereotype. Slavic as an ethnizity and as a linguistic group has been a term used to describe a group of peoples since the 6th century, so there were pagan slavs, christian slavs, slavs in the roman empire, slavs in the frankish empire etc.etc.
Saying they "defeated the german crusaders" is a weird statement because there were crusaders from all over europe and "the slavs" didn't defeat them as a group because a united heterogenous slavic empire identifying itself as "slavic" did never exist in the middle ages. Panslavinism is a phenomena of the 19th and 20th century. By saying otherwise we would reach the politicalized and polemized low level of someone stating that "the europeans" defeated "the arabs" when athens fleet won a sea battle against daraios during the persian invasion 600BC. Its just wrong.
I really hope noone decides not to play the game just because he thinks that he is not represented. Because if you think that anyone's cultural heritage is worthily represented by a flail-swinging videogame character you are propably reading the wrong books.
I have to say something about this statement. The term aryan is very problematic because of commonly known political reasons but first and foremost it is total ******** from a scientific point of view. The aryans were a indo-germanic tribe and during the migration-of-people-period spread from asian regions over the middle east and central europe. Blue eyes and blonde hair are no typical features for them. In fact, if you want to visit some people of aryan heritage nowadays you can find them in Iran, if i am not mistaken.Originally Posted by BlackOctopusRUS Go to original post
