I can understand 8 to 12 year old kids with heavy OCD that need constant gratification but not grown ups... if the game is immersive enough and with a good story, good mechanics there shouldn't be a need for me to unlock the best weapon only to be able to use it on the last mission, what good is that?
You have no level locked weapons ... so it's a good point for devs.
I'm not a fan of unlocks but we have to admit that the "normal" player, that only launch the game the week-end, need this to know where he is in his progression.
I know that it looks like for kids but even older players need it now. Some games have lost their players because they were loosing them in the progression of the game. I think some types of unlocks are useless and have nothing to do in a ghost recon game, but some of them are not a big deal except for players needing marks of their progression.

"Normal" players not like us hardcore fans
You know these guys that just launch their computer or console for 5/6 hours of play per month ... and who are the majority of people buying the game

Would it be possible for the devs to add a hardcore mode that makes the gameplay grueling enough to deter any and all casuals but also remove unlocks completely?

    I'm hoping so.

@ SBC... I still maintain that a solid story with good mechanics, good PC controls, good console controls and good graphics should be enough.

Now we are going to get not 1 BOSS but a heavy load of them and I see no logical reason why except to pretend to make the game harder because there isn't a good enough story behind it... talk about wanting to keep the casuals immersed in the game when all you need is time to figure out the scripted program to take down the BOSS... zero skills necessary.

I triple dog dare them to make it happen as well.

Here's hoping that in 3 months they can make the flower pot AI bloom

And I think that you can even remove "good graphics" from your list
Because IMO gameplay is more important than any graphics if they are strill correct

And I also want a hardcore mode ... we all want hardcore settings for members of this forum.

Super, graphics are too engrained into gaming culture now. It's nice to say that they shouldn't theoretically matter if the story and everything else about the game is good enough... But that's just not the case. We've been shaped by the industry as a whole to expect shiny new graphics with our new games, and we all know the technology is out there to make it happen. Without good graphics in a game, you lose a level of immersion in the game IMO.

I know I can't go back and play older games and get as involved in them as I did when they first came out, because I notice things in the graphics that throw me off. Things I know shouldn't be like that now that newer games are out, but I never noticed back then.

Anyhow, back on topic... Because it seems like almost every other thread devolves into graphics debates...

I wouldn't classify Ghost Recon Wildlands as an RPG at all. IMO The Division barely meets that definition either.

OP is asking if GRWL will have RPG elements, not whether or not it will be an RPG.

Just to clarify I was strictely talking about my opinion and with reasonable level of graphics. I know that for a lot of people it's now the first thing they check before buying a game ... and that's sad but we can't do anything for that

And yes, GR =/= RPG on a lot of points.
But unlocks are not only for RPG ... if they are intresting unlocks that don't modify the meta.

I did not say LEET/EPIC graphics, I just said good graphics... could care less about seeing the sweat from the baddie before I shoot his face but Cortexian is right... it is extremely hard to immerse while playing old games because we have been spoiled by the next gen graphics of today.

And I am still on the fence on what the HARDCORE mode will be like since they have not shown anything remotely close about it... I guess that we will have to wait to praise it or B&M about it at launch day.

To me graphics mattered more on new games when there was actual leaps made like Quake-> Quake 2-> Unreal. These days similar leaps are rare because of console restrictions.
Personally I can live with 2004 graphics just fine. Even older if game isn't 3D. And I don't consider myself fan or hardcore gamer anymore.
