After 80+ hours i have to say it was a solid experience but not without issues that the game had even with its recent "texture patches" i am not qutie sure if it helped the game.
Even on high end settings, the textures on the ground and some animals still dont look very good.
Lighting was ok in some ways.

More important than the textures - which I think are good enough for the intended gameplay - is to me, that the game does not have big fps spikes or drops, but runs pretty much everywhere smoothly, even the fps are not that high - in my case it is around 40 fps, which is acceptable, if there are no significant fps drops. I tried both, with and without HD textures, and the difference is overall not a significant one, neither in the looks of the game nor the performance. For a game with a lush environment with a lot of foliage the performance is good IMO. I reduced the fog density a little, because I though it looked too much like pollution in some places at a certain time of the day and this did not seem to be realistic to me. The colors in the game are a little too vibrant for my taste, but the way in which we humans see color differs from person to person and maybe I just see it as too vibrant and it is ok for most. It is not the only game where I think it is too vibrant.
What I am missing in a game, which plays mostly out in nature are weather effects - it never rains, it never snows - and in a survival game weather plays a huge role, because being wet and without shelter leads pretty fast to hypothermia, especially during night time - so it is a bit weird, that there are no weather effects other than the cold in the north. Another thing is that we do not have to preserve meat, we can carry around the same meat for quite some time, it does not rot nor be any dangerous to our health. We don' t have to dry it or cook it or roast it over a fire to preserve it for some time.It would require the stomach acid of vultures to survive that, but well.
What many do not know is, that cooking food had actually a huge effect on our evolution as humans, because it allows for better usage of the energy content in food, which is required to fuel our larger brains. Without the ability to cook food, we would have had to hunt and gather all day long and would never had have the time to evolve further than other primates. Fire and cooking food made us human.
I personally would like it, if we would have some more health bars, but a less effective healing, especially not an instant one, but healing over time. This is something, what is done in many games like in this one, but it is totally unrealistic to have instant magical healing - it takes away from the survival aspect and makes it more like a common "shooter", which does not require a lot of thinking for how to approach a target, but allows for rushing in. We have to bring green leafs to Sayla to heal her wounds, but our own wounds heal from a bite of meat instantly, this is pretty inconsistent. It cannot be realistic, I know, because we would die from infections sooner or later, but it could be a bit more realistic than just eating a bite of meat.
Other than that, it is a great game, I enjoy it a lot.
