To me, and I am firmly convinced to most others, one major selling point of this game is the faction vs faction feature/mentality.
It adds a layer of purpose and depth to the game, is interdependent with the storyline and provides fanboys of Knights, Vikings and Samurai with a place to share their passion with others of their kind, their brotherhood, and to celebrate the greatness of the warrior culture they love.
People band together and unite against the common enemies.
It creates communities based on passion, interest and fandom within the game and a way to fight the enemy on the battlefield.
As games like Planetside 1 and 2 have demonstrated, it forms cults and stronger bonds among player bases, and I am sure it would only do the game good in the long run. Especially if you, the people responsible for this game, treat us players with this in mind, that many of us WANT to be recognized as a dedicated Knight, Viking or Samurai. (Even though most will stray off every once in a while to explore the other factions)
This is just my voice though, so I want to make this a poll and see how many others share my opinion.
So please make your voice heard!

Not to be overly snarky or rude, but ohhh, boy, did you come in late. This topic has been talked to death. Even I'm done talking about it.

To save you the trouble, I'll just say the general consensus around here eventually came to be that it be a separate mode, mainly centered around Dominion, but possibly encompassing the other 8 player modes---Skirmish and Elimination---as well. I also favour Brawl being made into a 2v2v2 King of the Hill mode with all three (locked) factions in the same match.

Yes, I joined late and didn't mean to discuss it but rather provide numbers.
Unfortunately I never know when I get free time for gaming, or even digging through piles of forum posts.
I didn't even have time for the alpha I got sent an invitation to.
Right now I am really hoping to be able to join a beta though.

Nah, it's fine. Not everyone has the time, patience, or simple inclination to keep up with forum discussions regularly. That's why people with no life like me exist; to keep you up-to-date.
Shame you didn't get time to play in the alpha, though. Hope you get into the beta. If you'd like, I'm part of a discord group you can join to stay up on all the info, and talk to people about things like this. Most of the people there have been in multiple alphas, so we're pretty knowledgeable, and there's always a discussion going on, so you can pop in for a minute or two when you get a free moment.
