Steep does not have to be fully realistic or a simulation, but what it does right now, that it takes all control away from you in freestyle, this is just not good. I can not do anything apart from deciding about spin direction and grab type. If it was at least working. But my guy sometimes completes the jumps nicely, and sometimes he decides to add another flip where he clearly should not and crashes. Not to mention there is no way on snowboards to combine flips and rotations because you can not mix left/right stick input.
This is a really basic trick system, nothing more. On top of that, because it tries to be complicated, it is strange for many people. But this is more a getting used to issue.
At this point I don't even know how to select my grab so you're ahead of me there. While it's nice that there's a tutorial, it really doesn't show you all the controls. The controls aren't bad they just need to be adjusted some. To put this in perspective, controls on some new games are way outta line. Take the new Madden/Fifa games. They try so hard to be a simulation of the sport they forget the game needs to be fun. Recently I downloaded a wrestling game that was free on Xbox Live Gold. WWE 2k16 or something. The controls were so ridiculous because it tried way too hard to simulate wrestling maneuvers that I couldn't deal with it and deleted it. I feel bad for anyone who paid for that game. Steep's controls don't make me want to delete the game but only ask the devs to adjust them some so that they are easier to use.

You guys mentioning crashes, I feel for you. I played 2 hrs straight last night, no interruptions, no crashes. I only stopped playing because my dinner arrived
I agree camera angles could be improved in some situations, I agree it would be nice to regain some altitude in wingsuit (if that's possible in real life, I dunno, but would be nice to at least gain some altitude by trading speed), and I agree the g force system needs to go. I feel like g force is trying to reflect what happens when you start losing your balance after multiple bad moves, but currently it penalizes you too much I think.
I would also like to see rocks be slightly more forgiving. But that again would be helped by removing the g force system, as most of my rock-based wrecks are due to skiing across multiple rock formations in a row to the point where g force makes me fail.
Going across multiple rock formations should always make you wipe out though.

i think the game is pretty awesome, for a BETA even more. only annoying thing i found myself is the timing for doing tricks is so precise that i end up doing a lot of jumps where i can only grab because i timed bad. and the weird thing is i never have that with games. played a lot of games with timing and my timing is always good but in this game my trick jumps fail a lot for some reason.
i love the wingsuit and i don't mind the fact that i have to push left stick down the whole time to stay in the air, for me that feels good.
i miss a chatfunction, it feels a lot like single player at the moment without a chat.
Hi Admiral_NORF: Can I get the specs on your PC?Originally Posted by Admiral_NORF Go to original post

I have played 30+ hours, all set in Ultra, and i have not encountered a single crash during the closed béta.. (IMO a great improvement since the alpha stage)
befor i start this post i want to say that i REALLY love the game, even though its ofc far from perfect !! it has the potential to become perfect in my personal opinion
i absolutely agree on that ! its horrible not to have a global chat.. a global chat should be in the game, its needed. furthermore a mute all option in the options menue is also needed.. i hate to group up with ppl because of the ****in voice that i have to mute for every single person. i don't want to hear anyone and anything not related to the game itself and i want my immersive experience with the game sounds and music and nothing besides that. for social communication a chat would be much better, at least on the pc version (ofc i understand that its not possible for consoles, but on the pc version a chat is a must have for such an interconnected game AND a mute all option is also a must have !!)Originally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
i've to agree again, the tutorials are horrible. but at least it doesn't bother me because i already learned the game in alpha..Originally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
would be nice to have but is not a must have in my opinion.. the game already has enough content to justify the price, especially if alaska is even half as big as the alpsOriginally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
on of the best things in this game !! seriously, in the end its up to personal taste, but in my opinion you couldn't be more wrong about this aspect !! it creates immersion and is inredible.. the game would feel much more flat without that. this creates at least a bit of depth. this story-attempt is great and without it the game would be much worse then it is now..Originally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
i like it and it feels great once you learn how to control it. you are right that you can't gain any height (a bit but not much) but thats ok because you have to play ahead and i like this aspectOriginally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
i agree, the parachute is mediocre at best...Originally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
i disagree.. sure, skis and snowboard feel similar, but thats supposed to be like that. in the end you do the same things with both and in reality skies and snowboard are also similar, but not identical. and in this game they aren't identical too..Originally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
idk why so many ppl criticise that. so far i haven't had a single problem with the camera and its angles.. i've played like 20 hours in alpha and maybe 3-4 hours in beta now and it was always great, mostly even perfect..Originally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
the game is very much fixable.. the fixed can even be implemented within 1-2 months and then the game would become nearly perfect ! snow is one of the worst games i've ever played.. i bought it and i absolutely hated it i don't remember but i think it was even early 2016).. pure trash. if you like snow and hate steep your opinion can't be taken seriously unfortunatelyOriginally Posted by Viperr101 Go to original post
but besides that as said i agree on some stuff you wrote, but disagree on other.. overall i love the game and i had more fun with it then with any other game this year ! even great games like dark souls 3, civ6, trackmania turbo (my game of the year so far but it looks like steep will be goty for me personally) and whatever else got released this year were less entertaining then steep is for me personally..
There are plenty of people criticizing the game and I'd just like to express my opinion as well. To start with, I think the game looks fantastic, even on low settings, and it runs well. I have experienced a few minor issues, like some brief frame rate drops or slow downs in some portions of the map and some graphical glitches, such as the sun's rays passing through the mountainside, but I admit that these problems maybe my own personal issue as a result of my hardware. These issues aren't worth complaining about, though, so I'm just going to form a list of things that I like and things that I feel need to be worked on.
THINGS I LIKE
- An in-game shop where you can go and purchase items to customize your character. SSX 2012 didn't have this, it instead had a number of randomly generated items that would appear below your inventory when you wanted to equip a new item. In STEEP, you know what is available and you know what you currently have access to, and the store can later be expanded to hold new items. SSX would have been better had it featured a store like this, with perhaps a sub section dedicated to "mystery items"
- Warping. It seems like an obvious inclusion in a game such as large as this, so I would wager that most people take it for granted, however it needs to be praised. Imagine if you had to walk everywhere in the game, and at such a slow rate. It would be so incredibly tedious and boring.
- General level design. I like that the levels are designed to offer multiple routes, and I like that players are given the freedom to carve their own path during most events. This approach encourages creativity and ingenuity. All this and the levels look aesthetically organic, like they could be based on real world locations.
- Walking. I haven't played a snowboarding game that allows you to simply get off your board and take it slow. It's great that you can walk around and enjoy the scenery.
- I don't like to talk about music because music is a passive element that can do much to enhance the experience but is by no means a deal breaker, and because music is largely subjective, however I more or less enjoy the music in this game. As always, it's a bit hit or miss. My favorite tracks are the thematic tracks that play in accordance to your speed and that try to set a mood relative to what would be appropriate.
- I like that there are a variety of objectives to compete in; everything from point-to-point races to deliberately eating a face full of terrain in order to see who can rack up the most bruises.
- Costumes are great, and there are a variety of accessories that you can use to personalize your character.
THINGS I DISLIKE
- Gforce. As it currently stands, I feel that gforce is unreasonably punishing. Because there is no way to quickly replenish gforce, and because there is no way to reorient your character in midair, players are prevented, or at least severely discouraged, from taking risks that could make the game interesting. The Believe Derby is a great example of this. I know it's marked as hard, but the only reason it's hard is because the player has no control over his movements. The hard events like this take great advantage of this fact, and these events are therefore about repetition. You must learn the very precise method by which you can traverse the course, and it is quite restrictive. I like the idea of gforce; it sort of reminds of the stamina bar from Dark Souls. If you're not familiar, then go watch some videos of Dark Souls on YouTube or something. The general idea, though, is that players must manage their stamina efficiently, or be punished, as stamina dictates all actions a player can take. In Dark Souls, the player can take measures to replenish their stamina; in this game I feel the player isn't given enough agency to do that.
- Lack of trick variety. The game would benefit from more tricks, plain and simple.
- Wingsuit traversal. The original poster mentioned this, and I agree completely; There is no way to acquire height after you've begun your descent, and this can impact your ability to simply navigate. I know that the majority of wingsuit events take advantage of this, but for free play it'd be nice to be able to glide in a general downward trend while also being able to control your height to some extent. It would simply give the player more freedom to fly for longer periods of time and to maneuver in and around obstacles.
THINGS THAT COULD MAKE THE GAME BETTER
- Snowmobiles
- A mountain trolley that you can ride to get to premier locations on the mountain
- A lodge where players can go and socialize and play mini-games when not on the slopes
- Ice skating
- Costumes with outrageous abilities (like neon lights that trail from your character or the ability to use special tricks while wearing a specific costume)
So, my (more than) two cents. I enjoy the game, I think it's fun, and this is just my feedback from my limited experience with the beta. These are just some ideas for the executives at Ubisoft who are [likely not] reading this.
You can increase stamina in this game by slowing down or not hitting as many rocks and obstacles. It recovers when you're on snow.
