Help me get Xbox One controller to work with GRAW2 on PC?

Hey gang, I realize this is an odd and/or OLD thing to need help with, but it's new to me.

Long story short, I've been waiting for the next Ghost Recon to appear on Xbox basically since GRAW 2 was released. Anything released as GR after GRAW2 didn't count in my book. Now after waiting years for GRAW2 to become backwards compatible on Xbox One, I finally said "F this" and bought GRAW2 on PC without any thought whatsoever. I have never played PC games (not since the 1980's at least). As you may have guessed, I was surprised to say the least when GRAW2 installed, and in the controller section, there is nowhere to configure my Xbox One (or any other console's) controller.

I'm ready to play GRAW2 on my laptop (huge downgrade from my 60" plasma) but am not willing to also sacrifice my controller to basically learn this game from scratch. If there's ANYTHING AT ALL I can do, that will allow me to play GRAW2 with a console controller, please help me. As stated, I've already made huge quality concessions to jump in and play my favorite game of old time -- I didn't also expect to have to learn how to modify the game, or do much work at all. If this is easy for you, or you'd simply be happy to have another player in GRAW2 online on PC, please help me.

If all goes well, I'll connect my laptop via HDMI to my plasma and hopefully be having a great time later today or tonight.

    Thanks!

i've never used it myself but there is a thing called xpadder that should do it,there is a free version but googling it the top result shows the site is dangerous.the official site is priced at £5.99

an alternative that is free is joytokey but again i've never had to use it.

here's a link to using a xbox 360 pad with graw 2 pc

Wait, is the online portion of this game down? It said I can't connect to server. It was only $11-12, but that's surely enough reason to not even buy. Anyone know if I'm wrong? Thanks again

Hate to bring you "back to work" for the third time, so part of me hopes you don't see this or don't respond, but I'm getting "Server refused connection" error messages. I've tried both US and EU servers on the downloaded .exe file you pointed to. I'm using Windows 10 on a "top of the line" i5 laptop from 2016. Don't throw egg in my face, I realize my laptop isn't "top of the line" to gamers. I had no intention of using this laptop for games -- just got tired of waiting for GRAW2 to become a "backwards compatible" game on Xbox One.

    Thanks HalStep. I love you!

okay i've had a chance to have a proper look at it now and it looks like the launcher isn't actually changing the host file as it is supposed to.

make sure you run it as administrator,if that doesn't work you will have to manually change it yourself.it took me a while to find what exactly to do since it isn't something i have done myself before but here's what i found.

the part that you need to know
You could just update the host file in windows with the below code as a work around:

You will find the host file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

    162.243.230.247 greconawf2.master.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 greconawf2.ms2.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 greconawf2.available.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 key.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 natneg1.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 natneg2.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 natneg3.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 motd.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 gamestats.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 gpcm.gamespy.com

    162.243.230.247 gpsp.gamespy.com

NOTE: in order to edit the host file you will first need to copy the "host" file to the desktop and change the extention to .txt (rename it like this "host.txt") then open it in your favorit text editor and paste the above text into the bottom of the host.txt file on your desktop, rename it back to "host" and overwrite the "host" file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

You will get lots of warnings along the way but just dismiss and move onto the next step

Once you've updated the host file, update DNS...

    run CMD and past in

    ipconfig /flushdns

    hit enter, you're done!

Run graw2 on without using the launcher, create an account, and join!

You can play GRAW2 on PC with Tunngle (https://www.tunngle.net/en/). However almost no players there. I'l coop sometimes with friends and we've seen maybe 4 other people playing and all the games are password protected pretty much.
