The tutorial mission is too difficult

The last mission in the first area (where you have to subdue the riot leader) is far too difficult for a solo player. I died numerous times to this mission, and it's extremely unforgiving. You can take, at most, four hits before dying, while enemies (of which there are at least 15) take a long time to kill, even with headshots. There isn't enough space to avoid the grenades that are thrown at you (sometimes several at a time), and if you even peek out of cover, you're hit two or three times before you can even fire a shot. The area is too narrow and filled with enemies to flank them, and your AI companions are useless.

I'm returning to the game after a long absence to try out the new patch, but I can't see myself continuing. When I played before, I don't remember having any trouble with any missions until hours into the game, let alone the very first one. Do things get better, or should I simply admit that this game isn't for me anymore?

Can you get someone to help you? And yes it gets way better, Youll get into the UG which has instant and better matchmaking
It took me several tries to defeat that boss. But yes you can get someone to help you do that mission, even if they already did it before.

I suppose I could group with someone, but I really enjoy exploring these types of games on my own, at least at first.

Anyway, I did end up passing the mission, and I apologize for the negativity of my post. It seemed frustrating, but perhaps I just need to get better at the game. I was pretty excited at the 1.4 changes, so I'll keep at it.

Use your pistol if you have a good aim.

At the start of the game, your pistol is way more stable then all the other guns. Stay at range a keep spamming them heads. Not even joking, at that point in the game my real DPS was higher with my pistol then my main because I could simply sustain headshot after headshot because it was a lot more stable then the M4, etc.

What he said, and get a 1911 if you can, kills everyone but the boss in about 2 headshots.

I've seen "grouping" (Matchmaking) being mentioned - have you guys tried it recently? It's like it doesn't work anymore.

I've tried it a few times going into the DZ, Underground, doing SP missions on HARD etc - Pre 1.4 I would get hits, now I don't get anyone for a very long time - and when I do, it's just 1 player.

I did the tutorial using only a pistol (unmodded). Trick is to get up past the shelter on the right onto the hut and shoot them in the head from there. They try and flank from the right but you can see them coming through the fence. And if the flanks come too close from the left, drop a grenade. Happy dayz.

I will agree the final mission in tutorial is difficult. I think this is because after the recent update the game now expects us to have some decent amount of armor for damage mitigation but in the tutorial we have very little armor. I managed to solo it but it took several tries and the server lag there was bad as well.
