What's better for gaming, headphones or headsets? They're two completely different things?
Also, I literally just bought the Astro A40TR + MixAmp Pro Headset, and honestly, not impressed, the headset is heavy, shockingly uncomfortable, the microphone is on maximum yet people can barely hear me and the sound is already giving me earache, I have the hardware/software fully installed and updated correctly, the astro "command center" to configure and tweak the settings of the audio/mic is almost baffling, especially the 'Equalizer presets" and tweaking those, it's just a complete nightmare, I'm actually considering getting a full refund and buying something different.
P.S. the MixAmp Pro is somewhat unnecessary to be perfectly honest, it's a little anal and I think a rip off.
So my question is this: What's best for gaming, a headset or headphones? I'm hoping to get some good honest feedback from personal experience, I would also like to know what the pro league players are using, because let's face it, if they're using them, they must be good enough and doing the job as expected.
Astro A40TR + MixAmp Pro = Nightmare and headache material.
Well the only difference between the two is the headset has a microphone attached to it and the headphone hasn't. For gaming the headset can be better since you get a headphone and a mic for 1 price but if you have a decent mic you can buy a headphone but this is all about self preference. And the guys in the pro league they are using headsets the sponsors gave them
"At least as far as i know"
Tip for the next shopping: always watch some reviews and tests about the headset (or headphone) you gonna buy can save you from wasting money
For gaming i use the following hard and softweare:
- OnePlus Icons (in-ear headphones)
- Blue Yeti (microphone)
- Rode Pop filter
- Voice Meeter Banana (to create virtual audio cables)
Why voice meeter banana? Well basically this can split your game, teamspeak and own spoken sound by 3 different channels which is cool for video recording software like dxtory which can split record those channels
The OnePlus Icons are like it's brand OnePlus it self not really well known yet but these in-ear headphones have great quality of sound for music and trust me so do they for gaming.
From my experience with Rainbow Six Siege, the issue is not in what headset you use, or headphones... It's all in the lack of code/settings to configure VOIP and sound in this game.. For microphones and headphone speakers, and this i think is basically as it is a cross-platform game they just didn't bother as it would add to much extra work to the project... However the extra work they still failed horribly with a lot of stuff, but hey what can you expect, Ubisoft has been a disappointment lately...
Remember this as it is a good starting point... If it's released by Ubisoft, it's issues are mainly from the Dev side and rarely on the user...
I've never had this much issues with any other games for this long as I have with the latest stuff from Ubisoft...
I love mine and I use it for everything. Work, gaming, calls, movies. It's comfortable, the sound is amazing and they have excellent support.

i went with the Creative Fatal1ty Heqadset and it might be my Recon3D THX Surround card but everything is very clear and i'm learning the difference amongt same lvel, upper lvel and down level, as sound travels through the nearest entry point in this game. Got the sound card and headset for $160, comes with Front O/O Panel in DVD Drive form and has toggles for headphones, sepakers, and a master volume and mic volume + Aux RCA In jacks.
