I've played this game since beta on XBOX One. Recently purchased on PC so I could test out the PTS 1.4 patch. Created a new character leveled to 30 and I believe I'm somewhere around gear score 200 and struggling to get any further. Of course groups don't want you because they see gear score over any type of skill/game sense. Installed PTS noticed I had a level 11 character and continued on.
What I noticed from 1-30 1.3 VS 1-30 on recent 1.4 patch is that the difficulty scale is very hard. 1-30 on 1.3 I would say is a breeze, but I would account this so because I know what is going to happen, how it will happen and how to make a character, I've made 3 on Xbox One already. 1-30 on the recently patched version of 1.4 is very hard. I struggle to survive against enemies lower than my level let alone equal. Equal enemies can melt me, mind I can melt them, but 3 or more enemies make me waste nearly all my heals and kits (depending on their comp). I'm even running smart cover because I need it. Shotgunners can two shot me, snipers can nearly 1 shot me, assault enemies can kill me in half a clip, turrets which is a joke can almost kill me and heavies are a joke to deal with. I feel like I'm running around on Challenge mode for 1-30. I didn't even complete 1-30 as I started on Sunday and it was frustrating me that much. And to add I know my gear on PTS is wayyyyy better than it was on 1.3. However enemy damage to me was way too much to the point I wiped doing missions lower than my level several times (and I'm running recovery link)
I realize they were supposed to nerf damage by "15%" and actually nerfed by "30%" but it feels like instead of taking off "15%" they added "45%" and increased damage. I bet once I hit 30 and started gearing after that enemies would scale much better and I would enjoy my time playing. Creating a new character will be a nightmare in my eyes if the recent patch is released on Live. I think it needs another look at how Enemy damage is scaled. I think this game is great and fun to play. I'm more of a SOLO player than group, but do enjoy groups as well. I think the game settings that the software/programmers are utilizing are not granular enough. I think enemies need to be looked at individually more than as a whole. My damage output was about on par if not higher than it was on Live.

So you're in WT3, doing appropriate difficulty content? Or in WT4 doing Normal and some Hard content?
You are thinking of 1.4 patch. I never made it to level 30. Since I started on 1.4 after the latest update.
1.3 patch I have a lvl 30 player with gear score betwen 190-200.
Xbox One I have 3 characters at 240 or greater.
On 1.4 latest patch on PTS, I am not playing any hard difficulty missions. These are all normal difficulty. Which I am struggling to stay alive as enemies melt me. This is seriously a joke when I go to a mission that is 2-3 levels below me and my health melts quickly. Let alone equal level enemies. Like I said my character has better gear compared to when I was at the same level on the live server. Seems like the damage output of enemies is more. I will say enemies are dying just as quick or faster than in 1.3. Not easily done if 3-4 + are running at me, shotgunners or snipers combined I die. Elites, more so heavy elites hit like a freight train and anything else simply hits hard. Wish I could of made it to level 30 so I could test content afterward but getting there was not fun and I quickly gave up on getting to 30 as I was wiping too many times. Of course only people I saw at safe houses were 200+ gear score and wanted nothing to do with me.
That's seriously weird. I honestly can't speak to the pre-30 experience on PTS though. I had 4 30's, and starting a new character started them @ 30 with full purples (and later full gold + 36 caches.)Originally Posted by sacred3nigma Go to original post
My concern is anyone knew is going to see how difficult it is to start off now, rather than end game content that everyone is concerned with. If this is how difficult it will remain. I might as well try my best to get 4x30 level characters now before the patch.
I seriously hope the reduce the amount of "side missions" required to max out your three tech wings. Its tedious and annoying after the 4 character already. Wish there was half the amount with 2x the reward. Its not like we are missing anything else and want to get to end game content faster. Doing this stuff over and over provides no depth as its the same type of mission. Secure this, guard this, kill this, and free this....

That's extremly strange !
In vanilla games, enemies were always hard hitting.
Take Madison Field Hospital, the first mission. The boss almost oneshot you., and it have always been the case.
However, with the scaling, you grow stronger than enemies.
For example, if you are lvl10, with lvl10 gear, you are GOD compared to lvl10 enemies. Even more if you use Green gear instead of white.
Same goes until lvl12 or something (was stated in a SOTG), then the curve goes up a tiny little bit (because you have access to Blue and Purple gear).
But at equal level and gear, you should be a real powerhouse, even on hard missions.
Could you give us more details on your gear ?
Would love to give you exactly what I was wearing, but I cannot with PTS being closed. I can say my armor mitigation was much higher than it was in 1.3 at the same level. My weapons were a bit worse, but I was killing enemies just as quickly if not faster. I'm still unsure why enemies equal to my level were melting me and enemies a few levels lower give me a run for my money. I understand the game needs to be difficult, but I couldn't even complete the last 3 missions solo as I could before. I simply think they buffed enemy damage too much this time around considering they nerfed it too much last time. Doesn't sound like a whole lot of people made new characters and had 30s waiting for them. I may have seen 2-3 people below 30 in safe houses. I wasn't going to try more than 2 times to complete it. Simply gave up and then realized they were closing PTS Tuesday![]()
Hey, the 1-30 experience was preserved as we were happy with how it felt. There are balancing changes made with Update 1.4, however we took those into account for the 1-30 experience as well to preserve it.

I know the intention was there to preserve it, but I don't think it was. Based on replies and reading other posts, most people had a level 30 character waiting for them on PTS. When PTS Started I was still finishing my first character on PC and it copied a level 11 character. So I recently completed level 30 on 1.3 Live and then tried to on PTS Live (after recent update 4 I believe). I'm being dead honest that it was way too difficult to SOLO content. Took me a handful of tries to complete some and eventually gave up Monday night. I was running, recovery link, first aid and even smart cover at this low of a level and still finding myself burning nearly if not all my medkits and wiping. Enemies were hitting me very hard and at times impossible if they were aggressive on my position.
