Hello, the community of Ghost Recon Wildlands, I'd like to discuss about my belief of the importance of being able to customize the face when it comes to character customization.
Ghost Recon Wildlands had me obsessed with it recently as I believe I finally have found the game that will make my dream come true, which is being able to play as a spec ops soldier in an open world sandbox scenario with an emphasis on character and gun customization. Now I never actually played any previous Ghost Recon games and so far this dream has only partially came true during my days in playing Grand Theft Auto Online, but that game has many problems such as the infamous hair-pulling long loading time, and an extreme repetitive nature of gameplay. I clocked almost 700 hours on GTA Online until I quit lately (With 30% of the time being on loading screen, I swear), now you might ask why would I be playing GTA Online for almost 700 hours if I don't like the game? And the answer would be the fact that it catered my desire to play as a character I made and loved, the very character that I would like to believe as what I would like to be down to the smallest details.
Now GTA Online will never be as great on gun customization as Ghost Recon Wildlands, but I am not very sure about character customization, now I want to strictly talk about this within the factor of the face, I read about the game and it was vaguely stated that you will be able to customize the face, and then again this could mean you only have some presets to choose from. I don't know if the game will offer the player the option of modifying facial features (Eye size, nose width, chin height etc.) and if someone can confirm the existence of such feature, it would be a blast for me. Now regardless whether this feature will be in the finished product, I nonetheless would like to share my thought on why being able to customize the face is extremely important when it comes to a game that is offering a character customization experience.
The first thing that I hopefully can back up this claim is the fact that I myself would've never throw almost 700 hours of my life to GTA Online if the game didn't offer the ability to customize the face, thus if it only offered face presets, and keep in mind, GTA Online does not offer you the complete freedom to get the desired template and you rely on finding the preset that look similar enough and even though that, through patience and few hours, I made a face I am satisfied with, that's how important it was to me. , I did it because I will be playing a character I made and will love and feel unable to abandon, as if it's like family. Now you may wonder, "Why the face?", the second thing that I hope it can back up my claim is the fact that the face is the most important feature of a person's appearance, it's the first thing we see in a person, it's an actor's greatest asset, the very part of the body to identify an individual, during my time playing GTA Online, I was proud to play my character because it looked like the character that I want it to look like, now we all customize a face by referencing from someone else's face and allowing players to make their character look like that particular someone is in my opinion an effective total-played-time multiplier.
Am I going too far for wanting the facial customization to be like what is like in Sims or Black Desert Online? I could be, but keep in mind, this only benefits the game, it will never cause annoyance to any player as if they don't want to bother with it, they could simply choose a preset and be on their way. Am I being shallow for having too much thought on how important a face is when it comes to creating a character? Maybe, but the question remains would you make the face the way you wanted or would you rather have someone else choose it for you? Will I not play the game if facial customization is not what it could've been? I would still buy it and play it but the game won't keep me playing longer than if it were to be what it could've been.
I really look forward to this game and if the character customization is how I hope it could be, then the first thing I'll do is make my character look like John Wick, who wouldn't want to play as John Wick in this beautiful game?
Afterthought: The loading time won't be too long, right?
I don't think you'll see in the game that feature, customisation is a big point of the game for charactersmith but they kept it simple for everyone, the isn't a MMO.
I get you point, I played Eve Online and the facial customisation is one of the best but again it's a MMO.
Let's hope that the devs give us plenty of possibilities so we don't look to much alike with someone else.
Facial customization is always welcome and I would hope that this game would offer that kind of depth. If I had to guess though I would expect to choose from a number of preset characters like The Division - I would hope though that they offer way more options than that game did. The effects of customization are muted if everyone looks the same but with different clothes.
I am sorry but, are you going to play a shooter game or a fashion show game? I mean, to each his own but I would gather that 60% of the time you will be looking at the back of the head of your character, then 30% aiming down the scope, 5% shooting from the hip and the last 5% looking at the face if there is a snap-to-cover- system which we believe it won't have so... why???
You don't have to really answer that, it was more of a rhetorical question really.
But hey, like I said... the more options the better.
GiveMeTactical it's strange from you to criticize a specific request when you are well known for having yourself a lot of specific requests for the game ... but then OK if " the more options the better" is an excuse
Back to the OP :
I'm not a big fan of TOTAL facial customization. Normally you would say at me "WHAT ?!!" with big openned and nervous eyes, starting to try strangle me, you seem like a big fan of RPG style customization BUT you won't do that because I think you respect people even if they don't have the same opinnions as you (not like everyone here) and I see that just because your feedback is constructive
So I'm going to explain clearly my position (atleast I will try) on this subject.
Giving freedom to the player is awesome and it's what recent games are trying to do (GRW is not the only one with the "giving total freedom to players" argument) and it also includes freedom of customization.
Clothing, weapons, gadgets, ... and face. The problem with face (or body) when you give to much freedom to players is that some of them RP (at least a minimum) and have realistic looks because they want to identifiate themselves to the character they play. A lot of people are doing it this way, you, me, ... it's part of the magic of video games.
But then you have people going the other pass. Like glitches they are doing things that were'nt designed by devs. When you give to much tools to customize player's character some people will start to make the most ridiculous charcter ever (Ark survival, darksouls, ...) it's fun two minutes but when you want to be immerse in the game and a guy with a 3 meters long nose, 50 cm ears, enormous lips, green skin (I have nothing against space aliens) ... join your squad I don't think you are still immersed in the game.
Yes, I'm for facial customization but with only few modifications that you can apply to face presets (I would'nt be suprise if we will have complete character presets in GRW as some players just want to jump in the action). The division have face presets ... but not enough and because of this all peoples you were seeing running around you looked exactly the same. I think they understood this and by adding more face presets and being able to apply minor changes it will be good enough to have unique characters and not clones squad or Chernobyl mutants everywhere in Bolivia.
We will see exactly what it will be but if a next gameplay trailer they show us the customization menu it would be awesome![]()
Well according to what has been shown of the game so far and the "reporting" it seems as if the character customization of GRW is gonna be quite a bit more (not a lot more or significantly) extensive than The Division. I thought the Division had enough facial and character customization for the basic face, but was not what everyone thought it was gonna be. So if the customization is "quite a bit more extensive" then we may get lucky with level of detail when it comes to facial animation.
That being said March 7th cant get here soon enough.
I think it is something we are still waiting for news about. I don't recall seeing any official word on the level of customisation compared to other games such as the Division.
I'm a bit "all or nothing" on facial customisation. Either go the whole way and offer full on customisation, within limits so we don't get foot long noses, even uploading photos as FIFA did or keep it simple selections from presets. I'll be running co-op in several different groups and I guess it would be pretty neat to be able to recognise different friends as long as they don't insist on turning up in fancy dress.
