Hello everyone,
So I haven't already preordered the game, but I decided I will be taking the version with season pass in it, which is GOLDEN edition, it costs $100. Yet just yesterday I stumbled on one news article on gaming website that explained how just recently UBISOFT got away with not including paid DLCs into versions of their games like THE CREW, ANNO that had season passes in them - golden, complete editions etc...Example: those who have COMPLETE EDITION OF THE CREW won't get upcoming "Calling All Units" expansion, you guys will have to pay for it. I don't remember the website, so can't provide with link.
The fact tho is that I went to PSN store, and the golden version says: "...includes game and season pass giving you access to two major expansions as well as all Deluxe Edition content." It doesn't say that season pass will provide us access to all future DLCs later on, but only two. How do we treat season passes(SP) now? Till yesterday SP was smth that gave me access to everything later, at least it worked/works with other devs. UBISOFT are the first devs to start doing this, so it seems.
UBIs go like: hey, it's new financial season - so yh, new upcoming content doesn't qualify for previous season passes for all previous games. HAHA!
Even though I don't own the crew game, it feels like ubisoft has lied to us, gamers. From where I'm standing - not explaining things to the fullest, keeping things quite and in the shadow is a lie.
How should UBI name their games that will give you all the stuff? "Totally Complete Edition - This Time For Real" ?
I'm not sure I will pre-order the golden version now, seems like I will go for standard, and buy all the other content year(s) since release, will wait for discounts.
Charlie Hebdo has to start caricaturing UBISOFT...

Since this practise is perfectly legal, you will not make any difference by posting this here. Some of the Ubi fanboys might even call you out for "spreading negativity" and tell you to get with the program (or leave) because #WeAreUBI and Ubisoft is always right.
IMO, you make valid points though.
EDIT. Preordering practises are always shady.
Think of it as a seasons in TV shows. You have to pay again to get next season.
Yeah I have never bought season pass because usually they don't even give info what those dlcs or expansions are.
"two major expansions" when was last time UBI released something that fits to that description? Actually (not counting CDPR) when was last time any company released major expansion with season pass?
Oh, I'm not trying to change anything, sorry for not making it clear enough. Maybe what I'm trying to understand - was it me to find it out just now, or if has aonyone known about how mentioned games were treated? I'm just scared Wildlands will get the same attitude.
And fanboys, if any - how can't you understand, it's you being ripped off, no one is shaming the beloved games. UBI right or not - I don't want to try to feel like a billionaire when trying to purchase their game; I can't invest money into something that's supposed to provide you with content till the game is supported, when it's obviously not.
At the end, if my favourite upcoming GR game to have paid DLCs after season pass edition purchase - I'd be happy for Vivendi to get 51+ percent of shares and screw them over.
I guess if you understand the definition of "season" then you're a fan boy and thus incapable of a balanced perspective, Sp--pybrown. Is that how it works?
As it happens, I don't like some of the practices that games companies are adopting, and a lack of clarity about what you will actually receive is not fair on gamers. This is not strictly a Ubisoft issue though, and any company will be drawn into the worst of practices as all the Developers and Publishers, as an industry, chase the maximum returns and shareholder value demanded of them. It is naive to expect Ubisoft to be any different so to me, as a gamer, this issue is not about being supportive of the creative output, which in your simplistic definition makes someone a fan boy, more of being critical about the whole marketing approach from the entire sector.
My view is that the product segmentation we are seeing today in gaming is at best confusing to customers and at worst a cynical attempt to draw them into paying out more for the best features. What EA do with FIFA Ultimate Teams is more or less illegal gambling for minors, and whilst it is not much different to collecting baseball cards from bubblegum packs on the face of it, in reality it effects the gameplay and a player's ability to win. It is therefore seen as needed by the gamer and not discretionary.
To be fair to Ubisoft they have not been the worst for this and R6 has offered a reasonably fair Season Pass without needing to pay to win, but I think the games industry needs to set up a self regulating body that oversees and audits what is happening. It is generally getting worse.
Lemming Mentality to believe that "IT IS OK" because other industries take the same approach. More so if all you get is a "Broad Statement" and not specific details. At the end though, if you take their word at face value you/we are the dumb humans for not asking questions and doing your homework or you/we are the negative/whinner for asking questions... take your pick
Season is a pretty broad word if we take into consideration what they are referring to... Football Season starts at the end of August and ends at the end of May of next year. TV shows seasons start on Sept to Oct and end in April or March. so... what exactly is a Game Season? they could easily explain this but if they did so, they know they would be shooting themselves in the foot.Or, and therein lies the problem, they can just say... It is common practice among the Industry.
But hey, sit for a while and wait for the "Confirmed, Confirmed, Goden Edition Season Pass is open for Pre-order"![]()
