I'm a little disappointed with the loss of split screen, but if they are going to use the time to improve the other aspects of the game I suppose I am ok with it. I don't particularly like playing split screen, but my kids like to play sometimes, and split screen is fun with them. That said, I think I would rather see them have a co-op campaign which I believe is what they were discussing in the last video I watched after the alpha? That's a better option than split screen in my opinion, but honestly more than anything I would like to see the changes necessary like having larger multiplayer games, more multiplayer game modes, tweaks to the gameplay, more control options, removing the white lines around characters when locked on, and so on. Things, that will make this game go from a good game to a great game!

I was going to buy but not without split screen. Split is far more entertaining than online because of the social aspect.

Not to mention that one of the few boons of console gaming (unfortunately lol) was the ability to play split-screen on more games. And now it is mostly defunct. PC guys aren't so upset about it lol.

I think this is being a bit blown out of proportion. Yes it would have been a ver nice feature indeed but, lack of it doesn't take away from game's core offerings, and online coop will still be possible.

I am a PC person, and as far as I know, split screen was never going to even happen in PC version, it would only be on consoles, but it looks that too needed to be cut.

As someone who has worn shoes of a software developer, team leader, game creative director, I know decisions like these really need to be taken sometimes, and split screen may not always be as easy to implement as some of us think. If something needed to be cut off the game, I would say this is the one that wouldn't really do damage to core features of game, so the best choice. These things really take, lot, I mean LOTS of money, effort and time to develop.

I do agree waning of split-screen or multiple players on a single client is indeed a bit sad, but with proliferation of online multiplayer and cheap high speed internet everywhere, we still have ways to experience the game with our friends, and arguably even in a better way than split screen.

As a software developer, etc. would you be able to enlighten me as to why maintaining the split screen feature is so difficult? I am not a developer or game creator, but I do have some programming experience and I can't for the lift of me figure out why this would be so time and money intensive that it has to be removed. Mind you, this is a feature that was already in the game which is being removed because it's "too much work" to continue using it.

I fully understand that game development takes a ton of time, money, and effort and all of these resources are in limited supply. As such, if something really did need to be cut removing split screen is probably the right choice. But I still think Ubi is alienating a sizable part of they're potential client base by doing so.

I also completely disagree with you that online multiplayer is better for playing with friends. It is simply different. For people who are looking for more of a challenge - this used to be me - it can be better because the pool of players is much larger... especially for good players. But you lose a whole host of quality interaction when you aren't in the same room. It's like saying talking to someone on the phone is the same as sitting down face to face to talk. Here's another example: How often does a company looking to hire someone conduct a phone interview vs having them come in and talk face to face? I'm sure it happens, but I'm also sure the vast majority still conduct in person interviews because you get much more and better quality interaction. I think I'm starting to go in circles, so I'll stop here, but hopefully you get my meaning.

Again, if it were a new part of the game that needed to be developed from the ground up, I would completely understand the decision to remove split screen. Since the core feature was already there I just don't get it. I am willing and waiting to be enlightened however, so please tell me why this is so difficult!

It is not necessarily difficulty of the feature itself but rather being one of the possible features to cut out, when something needs to be cut out. Individual features can be easy, or at least not too hard for a programmer, but they all will have their effect on a huge project, and projects can "snowball", sometimes some stuff needs to get cut unfortunately, especially with projects that has deadlines. This may or may not be For Honor team's reason, we can't exactly know, but to me seems possible and also reasonable.

Was it really in game? Was it possible in alpha or any of the earlier play tests? I am under impression it is something that "would be in", as opposed to "already in", but if it was stated anywhere at any point that the feature was already done, than I may be mistaken.

As for the being better part, as you may have noticed, I've said "arguably", and even begun that particular paragraph by acknowledging the statement of slow death of split screen is indeed sad. I had amazing hours with friends in front of a SNES or a Commodore 64, or at times even PC, with more than one people playing on the same client at the same time, also eating/drinking stuff, and laughing, yelling at each other etc. But I think if a few friends can gather anywhere with their laptops connected to internet, it is still possible to get, a similar feeling, but with freedom a single player per client can give. Yeah, still not the exact experience, or not the same convenience of not needing more than one client, I admit. I have gaming buddies all over the country I live, and then have some other gaming buddies all over Europe too. Thanks to teamspeak, we can still enjoy those sessions even without seeing face to face.

Oh BTW, interestingly, I personally had a lot of job interviews done over skype, and have been on both interviewed and interviewing ends of it, but yeah in the end face to face is better , but online option is still there and works fine .

My main point is, if they got to a point where they needed to cut a feature out of plan, split screen is probably the thing that takes away least from game's feature set. Functionality it provides is, still mostly possible with online option, even if not exactly the same as split screen, the function of playing a game together with friend is still there.

My impression is that it was available in the Alpha. But I was not an Alpha player, so I could be mistaken.

Agreed, if it got to the point where something needed to be cut, that was probably the best choice. Anything else they change/remove would drastically change the game. Functionally you can get a similar experience online, but from a console and household perspective it adds a whole lot of $$ to the equation. For myself, and apparently a reasonable group of others, this makes multiplayer - the way we want to play it - financially unrealistic.

I'm pretty sure split screen is only being removed from online play, and the campaign/vs. bots will still have it. There, art thou happy?

I think it was a official statement that split screen is removed for the campaign aswell.

    1. There was no split screen function in the alpha version. I was no alpha tester, sadly, but i have not seen a single video with the feature in use and they did not adress it in their opening event.

    2. Yes, splitscreen is gone from the game as a whole.

    3. Thank you WinterHt for making so much sense, exactly my thoughts.
