PTS Week 2 - All Challening Story Missions SOLO

    All Challening Story Missions SOLO

    TL;DR Overview:

Refugee Camp - Completed, Died Once (recovery link). No adjustments recommended

Lincoln Tunnel Checkpoint - Completed, Died Once (recovery link). Fix metal door after meeting Benitez

Lexington Event Center - Completed, Died 5 times (2x Recovery Link), Adjust Riker Heavy LMG (see below for explanation)

Warren Gate - Not Completed (seriously, **** this mission) Died 4 times (2x recovery link), Whole mission needs rework (see below)

Queens Tunnel Camp - Completed, Died 5 times (1 recovery link), LMB have issues - healing station + new A.I. = not fun (see below)

Russian Consulate - Completed (Jesus, Mary and Joseph), Died I don’t even know at this point 12 maybe? LMB Issue again

OK, so I have been seeing a lot of posts on here about how challenging mode is not feasible for solo, so I decided to dedicate all of today to get some details on this. Here is a link to the character I used. http://imgur.com/a/xVYEn Sorry Imgur swapped the order of the pictures.

As you can see I do not have a min-maxed build and am not even using performance mods. This is the exact build I used all the way through (except I think I did put in one performance mod in the middle of Russian Consulate). Overall, I think TTK and TTBK are fantastic. There are a few minor discrepancies that I will go into. Here is a brief rundown of my experiences per mission.

Refugee camp - Could complete in 1.3

Fairly straightforward and I would consider this the second easiest. It is tricky at the beginning, because everything aggros you immediately upon entering the gate. This is where I died but was saved by recovery link. The hardest part is end encounter in my opinion. The endless spawn of shield/fire-axe guys made it so difficult. Again, no recommendation to change anything.

Lincoln Tunnel - Could not complete in 1.3

Again, fairly straightforward. Also again, the first encounter is a bit tricky, having to dodge inbeteween cars and what not. The worst of it is the grenade spam. Lots of grenade spam. One thing I did encounter was the snipers that are setup just outside the metal doors (right after you meet with Benitez) can shoot through those doors and can see your location even though line of sight should be broken. Please fix this. Oddly enough the most difficult portion of this mission was when you have to defend the bomb defuser. This is what would prevent me from completing this mission in 1.3. The golf clubbers are vicious. In 1.3 they had too much health and could walk straight though my fire and murder the bomb defuser. MUCH improved in 1.4.
Hardest part is defend bomb defuser, lots of golf clubbers

Lexington Event Center - Could not complete in 1.3

This got tricky. It was fairly smooth (although difficult) up until the rooftop. That is where all of my deaths happened. What finally got me past this section was changing my kill priority. I was attempting to take out the sniper first and this ended up being a mistake with my loadout. I switched priority to the grenadiers and the heavy LMGs (also targeting anything off opportunity) and was able to progress. There is an issue with the heavy LMGs though but I will address that in the Warren Gate portion as that is really where I noticed it the most. One thing that did concern me was during the final encounter, grenadiers seemed to know my location regardless of line of sight. They were tossing grenades directly at me feet, even though I was in a different room on the floor above them. That shouldn’t happen but didn’t cause me much issue.

Warren Gate - **** WARREN GATE Never attempted in 1.3

OK, if you want this mission to be viable for solo players (remember readers, they are supposed to scale now) the whole thing needs to be reworked. Firstly, WAAAAAAAAY too many mobs per encounter. Way too many. I tried to count them on the INITIAL battle and I got:
    6-8 grenadiers
    2 heavies
    4 or so double elites(captains?)
    4 shotgunners
    5-6 regular elites
That was just the first encounter. The real issue is I kept running out of ammo and having to go back and restock after EVERY SINGLE FIGHT. Even the non-event fights. This slowed the whole thing down like crazy. The biggest issue though is the valve event. The issue here is the timer. Not that there is a timer but the way the A.I. works and the fact that you cannot engage the valves while enemies are around make this ridiculous. To explain better, I would burn down most of the group and there would be a few stragglers that would play hide and seek with me. I would chase them down and they would run to cover. This burned a stupid amount of the timer. Instead of having to chase these idiots down, we should be able to access the valves at this point. It does not make any sense that we cannot, especially since the current hostiles are hiding from us. I had to quit after dying several times at this part. If I kept at it, I think I could have finally gotten through it but the sheer level of frustration was so high I had to quit, so I didn’t smash my computer into little tiny pieces. And then set those pieces on fire. Another issues is the heavy LMGs. Their HP is fine and damage output is ok but their critical spot is buggy as all hell. It has been this way for a while but it exacerbated this issues with the mission tenfold. Yes, you can hit their backs but for me 60% of the time, the hits don't register. EVEN WHEN I AM DIRECTLY BEHIND THEM. This shouldn’t happen and needs to get looked into. There is something wrong with that hitbox.

Queens Tunnel Camp - Could not complete in 1.3

This one wasn’t so bad, although I did end up dying quite a few times in the server room. The issue was the number of shotgunners than spawn in the second wave and there being very few places to take cover. I would suggest perhaps reducing the number of shotgunners that come out at this point, at least for the solo scale. I didn’t have any other issues with this mission specifically other than an inherent issue with LMB that I am seeing. Specifically, the combination of the new A.I. (which for the most part is wonderful, good work) and the new healing station. I honestly don’t know what would work best as far as fixing this but this is what I encountered. The healers would sit waaaaay back and drop these healing stations and then just camp there. With so many other enemies in front of them, it was impossible for me to get anywhere near them or the stations. What I ended up having to do was track waaaaay back in the mission in hopes that I could lure 1 or 2 of them out of the healing radius so I could burn them down. The healing is sooo strong. Most of the time I would empty my magazine into an enemy and by the time I had reloaded my clip, they were basically at full health again. Quite frustrating. This got stupid in Russian Consulate. I did have one experience where I could not shoot one of the Heavy/Shield enemies critical spot. This only happened once and thankfully I still had CC grenades.

Russian Consulate - Could Complete in 1.3 (much easier too)

Holy mother of god. This took me more than 4 hours to complete. I do understand it is the most difficult mission but it was a silly sort of difficult. I managed to complete it, after dying so many times I lost count. The issue here is that inherent LMB problem. The new A.I. + those healing stations. There were so so so many times where I could do absolutely nothing because there were multiple healing stations down, so I COULD NOT DPS ANYTHING down and the healers and their stations were tucked cozily out of sight. Like I couldn’t even get line of sight on them. That isn’t just difficult, it’s maddening. Again, I would have to go back incredibly far in the mission to lure 1 or 2 of them out so I could burn them down like that. It became almost laughable at that one room with the fish tank and upstairs area. I had a few instances where the heavy/shield guys were shooting me through their cover and my cover. They could hit me through my cover in those half-circle balconies near the beginning of the mission. And they were shoot though their cover in that fishtank/upstairs room.

All in all I have to say, it is a MUCH improved experience over 1.3. TTK and TTBK are in a perfect place in my opinion. The new A.I. is so much fun to play against. They flank and rush and all kinds of crazy stuff that keeps you on your toes. I can completely understand why people are having issues though, you CANNOT play lazy. You absolutely cannot just sit on smart cover burn everything down, it just isn’t going to work. You have outmaneuver them. There is still some work that needs to be done but it is in a much better place than it was!

I have faced exactly the same 'problem' with Lexington Event Center. Two LMG tanks at the roof top with a swarm of other NPCs.

Do not even want to try any of challenging missions with LMB. The Underground was enough for me. I have completed a lot of solo underground runs, but died a lot too , when encountered LMBs; mainly because of LMB medics with their insane healing stations ))) and several times because of shotguns.

Overall experience is much better than it was in 1.3 version. As it was mentioned by BanditoElTaco, NPCs are rushing and flanking and it is interesting to play. Only 2 times I have died when 3 and 4 NPCs simultaneously rushed me in the Underground. I think it should not happen, because 3-4 NPCs kill you almost instantly, you just can not run and hide quickly enough.

Anyway, it is much better then it was in 1.3 .

Yea man, it's so nice to finally have a decent place to be challenged. Even though there is still some work to be done, 1.4 is a huge leap ahead of 1.3!

Oh I forgot something! The seeker mine range from LMB are seriously crazy. In Russian Consulate mostly, they were sending them not only across the building but down floors as well. I want a seeker mine that can go that far! Please look into this because that is just ridiculous.

I messed around with some Consulate and by far the worst thing to deal with were the seekers. Medics, np, fishtank room (as soon as you kill the shotgunners that spawn just overheal, toss a cc grenade, and run to the next checkpoint), np, just so many ******* mines. They don't do much damage but they have a short cd and most rooms will have at least 2 rogue agents.

The other thing I hated in Consulate were the stairs into the library.

Interesting that you didn't have much trouble with the medics. I wonder if it is because my DPS is kind of low and I just can't burn them down fast enough. They really gave me a walloping.

In every consulate room that gives you an option to get above the enemies I took advantage of it. Get on the second floor balcony as soon as the shotgunners die in the lobby, catwalk in the server room, etc. That's the easiest way I found. That and you can kill a shield who is standing in the healing aura while their ammo cooks off if you break his backpack and you have enough rounds ready.

I recorded a little footage but I didn't upload it because I got bored and went to find dinner before I got to Hornet but I can upload it if you want.

Nah, not need but thanks for the tips! I love a good challenge, as long as it is attainable.

I hope massive read this start to finish you literally have detailed every issue I have seen so far.

Point blank there's too many enemies in some of thee later missions for one person to handle. Unless they turn time to kill down to nothing its impossible to handle that much aggro and bullets flying at you.

Ubisoft please read this. Guy has great points and he should be commended for putting in this time and still having a computer to post with the missions are frustrating and not fun with the current levels of everything.
