As much as I love Raider, they don't have a lot of tools at their disposal---especially compared to the other characters---and as such you will find yourself on the defense more often than not. Especially in a 1v1 situation, you'll want to focus on counterattacking and punishes. Wait for them to attack, dodge>Pommel Strike (as an example). If you get a parry off, capitalise with a couple of light attack (and remember to change stances mid-chain.
Use heavies sparingly because they are very telegraphed and can easily lead to a parry or deflect (if fighting an assassin). However, you can use them a bit to fake out an opponent and bait them to come in. Raider's heavy>light>heavy combo is perfect for this. Throw a heavy purposefully out of range and miss, which often causing the enemy to dash forward thinking they'll get to punish you, and throw a light to surprise them. You can choose to not finish with the second heavy if you want to maintain proper spacing and not be punished in return (just depends on the moment/situation/opponent).
The same applies to the unblockable. Use it sparingly, if at all. Maybe if your opponent is low in health and you could afford to be parried, but never as an opener, never as a standalone move, and never if you're low health and are desperate for some damage (even though I'm guilty of this tactic---and in fact it could work, since your opponent, in that situation, might be just as desperate to just get that last hit in and become sloppy).
(and sorry for being so late)

Like I said to Sorrowness above, you have to be patient more than anything, especially against higher-skilled players.Originally Posted by ShuyinVardiz Go to original post
I feel like most people underappreciate Raider's light attacks. They're a little bit quicker than Warden's (not the double-light; just the normal light), and they do a bit more damage. Most people rely on heavies because they want the high damage that comes from them, but that's often a poor strategy, because you just get parried or deflected. Again, you just need to know when it's a good idea to throw one.
I'm also not sure what I could update or put into an advanced guide except for strategies like that (which might be all that's necessary), because, like I said, he doesn't have a great deal of mix-up potential. The heavy>light>heavy is his only real example of versatility. I kinda wish he had a counter move performed off a parry like Warlord's shield bash counter, but I don't think they'll add one.
I guess Raider had to play with his range if he wanted to make use of his heavies.
As you said, launching the first hit of a chain a bit too far to feint the ennemy, etc.
(during the alpha, Raider didn't interest me at all... But since your guide, I'd love to play with him ^^
Although the closed beta looks so short for so many characters to test..)
This guide is incrediblely well detailed. Easily one of the best guide series on the game thus far. But there is one things it is missing: how to disrespect others with goofy taunts. Clearly this needs to be rectified immediately :P joking, if you folks make a full series of these, it would definitely help allot of new players. Heck these should probably be up on the main website tbh
Guard break and when you throw you hold the down direction on the right stick (as if you're going to throw someone behind you), but with Raider, if you hold down the guard break button you can spin your opponent in a complete circle if you want. If you can get a guard break off while outnumbered, you can use it to stagger everyone and drain their stamina.Originally Posted by DocDewrill Go to original post
I... don't know. I don't recall seeing that, honestly, and that's very surprising considering how much I played Raider.also, the Pommel gets a "throw axe" bonus, what exactly is that good for?
They can only do a single hit, either light or heavy, off a pommel strike. That was always the case.Originally Posted by Altair_Snake Go to original post
You can only carry them straight forward. You can steer them ever-so-slightly with the right stick, but it's a negligible amount. The other throws are not carries.Originally Posted by el_CHINOCUDEIRO Go to original post
Yes. You can do a light or a heavy, but only the light is guaranteed.-After a pommel strike: what do you do? It´s a light hit guaranteed?
We have made one for almost every character. Only ones not out are the Hybrids, Shugoki, and Peacekeeper. They're all linked on our Warlord Guide.Originally Posted by Darkrynblade Go to original post
By using the left stick at throw execution you can direct which way to throw that opponent. Works terribly well when tossing someone off the edge of a bridge or cliff.
And i agree the only thing that could be said further about the raiders is an advanced tactics manual. One of my favorite tactics is using the dash toward an enemy to close the gap and follow it with a guardbreak and toss.
Great job on this game and the guide, I cant wait for the 14th, see you all there
Keep the pressure on them. Stun attacks and quick, light hits. They're usually more focused on bleeding you and running away, and Raiders hit harder, so keep mixing up the directions of your quick strikes, and they won't be able to do a thing.Originally Posted by Sorrowness. Go to original post
