Shield still goes invisible, but is present, I can pound E and maybe get it back but I'm told that my damage resistance is up every time I push it. If I hold e to dismiss the shield it won't go away. If I equip either primary weapon they do no damage to enemies, only the hand gun works.



If you are standing close to cover you will not raise your arm and end up shooting the back of your shield.

The ballistic shield seems doomed. Its a shame, because it would bring in a new style of play to the game. Hope it can get fixed.

I really wish I knew the exact cause.

As near as I can tell it's related to time in a mission (story, underground, incursion) and interactions with skills, damage from NPCs and interacting with the world (levers, buttons, running, other things that make the shield go through the un-deploy then re-deploy animation). It's worse on missions with Special Forces directives.

Once it's bugged the only way to fix it is to go through a loading screen like an elevator in a mission or to get downed and revived.

To prevent the issue I can dismiss the shield before it's bugged and re-deploy it frequently, say after each NPC encounter, that keeps it fresh and visible.


If you want to re-create the issue I would do these steps:

1. Start an underground mission
2. As soon as you get off the train, deploy your shield (I like the one that pulses enemies who shoot at you)
3. Run the entire mission with the shield deployed without dismissing it or redeploying it. Open doors, push button, run a lot. Eventually, usually in the encounter right before the elevator it will disappear on you.
4. Once the shield has gone invisible you can push E (assuming it's bound to E) and it'll make the deploying motion and give you a status message that you're getting the benefits and when enemies shoot at you from the from the invisible shield takes the hit instead of you.
5. Profit?

Yep just had the whole known set of Ballistic Shield problems. Activated the Shield in combat, got in cover, did some running and suddendly it blocked again, I could not use the main weapon, the Skills were deactivated and the shield would not come back. Will try to recriete it.

Just use it in combat and in the same confrontation, after a few covers, you have these problems, or you are even shooting into the ground.

Were you shooting the ground or the back of your shield like my second screen shot?

It is imperative the shield is fixed in the PTS for 1.4. Please put extra effort. We need to see this work and test properly.

You can make the shield disappear quite easily. I've noticed that it disappears often when switching from left to right side with the combination of reloading. Hell sometimes it just literally disappears right in the middle of walking forward while shooting. But I do agree the shield has got to be fixed in this update, it is very useful when geared towards it, that is when it's working properly.

But every time I play ( I always use the reactive targeting shield ) it bugs out. I've played with it so much at this point I'm expecting it to bug out.

Latest version of the PTS and the Ballistic Shield is STILL BROKEN.

I made a video of it. It's 5 minutes, but I've made a list of time stamps that show the various bugs with the shield. Oh, and as a side note the grenade spam from the LMB is ridiculous, how do they lug around that many grenades?

Key Time frames:
1:53 - Shield just disappears. It goes invisible, but it's still there. I guess shooting my gun makes it go away?
2:02 - I try to get the shield back, but it doesn't work, because the shield is still there and invisible.
2:45 - I pull out my shot gun to finish an LMB and the shots do NO DAMAGE, because my shield is still up and the shotgun is not a valid weapon right now.
3:20 - Shotgun does not damage but then I switch back to my pistol and I can do damage again.
3:30 - I try to use the shield skill and it tries to proc but just ends up saying +Damage Resistance, still no visible shield.
4:19 - I try to use my SVD and it does NO DAMAGE
4:30 - I switch back to my handgun and it does damage again.
4:35 - I try to use the shield again and it won't appear.
5:38 - The shield protects me from the explosion but is not visible.
