Dedicated Servers
p2p
As someone who has written a couple SADS (stand alone dedicated server) I can tell you that they take a LOT of developement to create, flesh out, and bug-hunt.
That being said, Peer-2-Peer match making takes a whole HECK of a lot more developement and investment from a company standpoint. What you must understand is that they have already invested FAR FAR more $$$ and infrastructure into P2P to not utilize it.
Ever wonder why almost every Indie-dev company creates SADS? They're cheaper, and more efficient in the long run for a small company to maintain. All you need is a "Master Lookup" server that looks around for hosted dedicated servers that someone else has put up, and then "points" you to them.
P2P matchmaking has a LOT more involved moving parts behind the scenes.
Do not be surprised if they say no, because now it'd be almost a major refactor to turn their P2P matchmaker into a Dedicated Server Matchmaking (or server browser system) similar to how STEAM works.
Don't blame the developers if we don't get SADS. It's ALWAYS the producer, or people with decision making power, that says yay or nay. Put the pressure on them, and NOT the good people behind the scenes putting the sprockets and cogs into place. They want as good as a game as you or I wish for, but are often shot down by people only concerned with dates and costs.
However, I'll say this bluntly. It would be HIGHLY unprofessional and insulting were Dedicated Servers, that we could rent and run as "community servers", to be excluded from such a fantastically developed game. Only UBISOFT could mess up such a beautiful product. They're masters at taking something genuine, divine, and inspiring to then turn said thing into a pile of disappointment.
Internal politics at a game company ALWAYS sour the harvest before it's even ready to deliver.
It's not rocket science, and makes perfect sense from a business/investment stand point.
Servers = Success
No Servers = Failure
Servers = Money!!!
No Servers = Game Shuts Down
Servers = Very High Player Base, Very High Initial Sales, Very High Continued Sales
No Servers = Very Low Player Base, Very Low initial Sales, Very Low Continued Sales
But hey, I'm just a gamer, what do i know? I mean it's not like I buy video games rite? O.o

Couldnt have said it better. I truly hopoe that Ubisoft listens to its players this time...
Thank you for your insight. Im assuming even with everyone saying P2P has to go that its not going to be changed from that networking base. And how many console games have you seen with the option to rent aserver? Ive seen 1 out of the hundreds of games (Battlefield4) and the servers were so overpriced it was worthless. PC may get love when it comes to servers viable for renting, but console is going to get ****ed no matter what.Originally Posted by ThatSnekyRusky Go to original post
well I wanna add something no one has brought up so far! :
we need dedicated servers!
wait what, I dont think anyone said dedicated servers or?
wel yeah what you mean by dedicated servers? Like servers that are dedicated?
maybe more like dedicated servers, man, somone should go tell em!
nonono, you have to be blunt and say, DEDICATED SERVERS ARE A MUST...
oh wait this brings back memories, of [Thunderfluffy overused Legendary itme of the muteseeker] !
no way man, your oblivious, all we talked about was DEDICATED SERVERS boy!
ah ok, now that you say it... maybe we really need dedica....
I could do this for hours,but well at least one thing here WE ALL CAN 100% agree on!
I know the devs want to deliver us the best game possible and its always the producers or some higher up that doesn't know anything about games that make these poor decisions. So I hope that someone at Ubisoft will shine some light on the person who chose p2p over ds.
Why do we hate p2p?
Well, in for honor I was in the 1v1 duel mode and I was crushing my opponent. On the 3rd round my opponent was standing still, I backed off thinking he may need a second to readjust himself and then all of a sudden I'm being attacked by an invisible force. I run over to attack his body and there is no response, I'm constantly being attack from what appears to be my back and I'm killed. The Next 2 rounds I encounter the same bull **** and lose the match. Obviously my opponent was burried in salt and decided to try his chances at taking me down by modem tapping or downloading porn.
Also in dominion I noticed players would disconnect before the match ended or after a crushing defeat and it would fail to migrate host causing everyone to disconnect from the match (wasting our time and losing rewards)
^^These specific scenarios is exactly the reason why we do not want P2P. It ruins the game.
