1v1
2v2
4v4
8v8
16v16
32v32
Let me start by saying I love hack and slash games, and I have been waiting for a game like this since forever!
I see a lot of potential in For Honor and would like to share some suggestions to make the game better:
I love Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, they have some of the biggest map with 32v32 players and I believe For Honor would be fantastic if it support that many players in the same map!
Chivalry is 4 years old and people are playing it without getting bored of it because of the large maps and the community that helps keeping it alive. I feel like 4v4 maps won't build that community and the game would be dead before it even got popular. Just like Evolve before it went Free to play. 8 people playing together for a couple minutes won't have anything to say, hack and slash would get old after a few months. I believe many different type of game modes, large maps, interactive objects inside said large maps, with large number of players is the key to make it interesting.
If you model after Battlefield and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, I think For Honor would be the best game in its category!
Other minor suggestions:
Make it bloody, unless you're striving for a T rating! I see blood coming out of the enemy but they don't get bloody at all, blood didn't stain their clothes nearly as much as they should have been. Swords should be dripping in blood after a kill. Floor is stained with blood for like 2 seconds and disappeared, I think it should stay for a while to make it look real. You can always have a "Gore" toggle for people.
Allow players to have some control over minions, direct them, ask them for back up, tell them to stop advancing, etc. would make the game more dynamic.
New game modes, make it fun! Jousting would be fun! Kill the enemy king, capture the flag, rescue villagers, realism with no health regeneration and correct faction teamates. Again, Chivalry would be a nice inspiration for this game!
Add horses, wagons, traps, oil pots, archers (minions and maybe heroes), make the battlefield diverse.
Slightly zoom into the enemy that killed you last time when you saw him the first time after respawned.
I really hope the devs are reading these suggestions! I'm eagerly waiting for Feb 2017!
This game just isn't made for that big of numbers. I feel like it just barely gets by currently with 4v4. If they were able to hone in on the design and add mechanics to encourage players to spread out strategically instead of running unguarded point to unguarded point slashing everything in between, then maybe it could support up to 6v6 smoothly.
Chivalry IS the Battlefield of medieval games. This game doesn't need to be it, especially with the focus on 1v1 combat.
At MOST I would say the game should have a 6v6 mode. Even then it would be extremely crowded on the maps. Plus there's already the problem with people ganging up and fights just turning into 1vX where one side just spams guard breaks. It'll be even worse with more players.
Didn't even read OP and I just want to say BRING ON THE 64v64!!!!
In seriousness though a mass war gametype would be ****ing awesome. Like the maps would be a full castle/keep assault (referring to ESO type of thing), and to you nay sayers, it would do little to nothing against the servers unless ubi is running on paper and gumballs. It's called optimization, which is something the current build isn't geared for improving yet.
The only thing would be the Breaking would either have to be localized, changed, or removed for any sort of game type this big.
The maps aren't really big enough for more players.
But I would like 5v5 like a regular competitive game. One more class per faction, devs.
Atgeir for vikings, sabre for the knights, (think Griffith) and of course, niten ichi-ryū style katana and wakizashi dual wielding for the samurai.
But if we could get larger maps with more players, I'd be fine with that. That could be fun too.
So with 20 threads of people complaining about no dedicated servers now people want 12v12 and 32v32? Besides the fact the p2p set up would be disastrous, it would also ruin the combat system for this game and the maps aren't near big enough for large sides. This isn't a point and click game like battlefield you actually have to try to kill somebody not just hold down a button and aim. With so many people in a match there would be no fights just a bunch of people ganging up on whoever they saw. It wouldn't be combat it would just be chaos and not fun at all.
Yup, p2p connections aside(which is the first big hell no for having larger player game modes). If you played the game you would see pretty quickly that any more than 5v5 or 6v6 and it woul djust not be fun any more. With the current map sizes 4v4 is perfect, if they make a few slightly larger maps then 5v5 and 6v6 would probably be ok, but any more and say goodbye to fun.
If I have to see another post about this uuuugh.....
First off, this game is NOT a hack and slash game, so please get that out of your mind first.... It's a very detailed Moba style fighting game (it's kinda hard to give it a genre honestly).
Secondly, Do you reeeeeaaally think the developers did not think of this and test it out? It's very likely that that amount of players does not work with their "Art of Battle" system which is really what this game is based upon.
Lastly if you want that amount of players, you are better off finding a different game... Or wait for For Honor 2 where they may be able to change things up to be able to do large scale battles correctly. You could also wait for the For Honor spinoff called "For Honor: What the community wanted" that consists of exactly what you are asking for: locking onto one opponent while having to defend against 10! Have fun!(That isn't really coming out so calm down)
So if you are going to get anything form my reply get this: For Honor is not for large scale battles!
The game is balanced for 1v1. That is where the art of battle shines, which is the core of the game.
Skillful melee will be what makes the game enjoyable and stand out.
Anyone who thinks this is a medieval battlefield is projecting wishful thinking into the game. Art-style wise, For Honor fills a niche. It is the only AAA Medieval game out there. And because of that People project all sorts of stuff into it, because they want it to be the medieval game they alsways wanted to play. Some are complaining about everything not realistic because they want a simulation. Others want catapults, 10000vs2342320 player matches, vehicles and nukes because they think a game works like a Lord of the Rings movie, without thinking about how the gameplaymechanics work..
You guys need to accept that the game has much more in common with a fighter than with any other game. If you expect a game where the focus is on you have to train your skill to overcome one enemy at a time, then you are on the right track.
I just need to add some salt: How is it possible that so many people think the game would be playable in 16vs16+ modes. Have you seen the chaotic hack n slash that resultet in letting just 8 noobs play deathmatch together in the alphas ? Do you really want more of that ? On the other hand, have you ever looked at good footage of players who make the game work ?
